Poor Mike Jinks...
Poor Mike Jinks...
Mike took a hint from the people who hired him, and wants to blame the negative press for hurting recruiting. Hiring a coach who has no idea what he is doing, hurts recruiting. Taking a job you have no business doing, hurts recruiting. Hiring all your Texas Tech buddies (including some who get arrested), hurts recruiting. Getting blasted on TV every time you play, hurts recruiting. Giving up 52 points to a backup QB (who looked awful), hurts recruiting. Leading the nation in arrests, while being awful on the field, hurts recruiting. Mike everything you have done since you got to Bowling Green (Perrysburg) has hurt recruiting.
Re: Poor Mike Jinks...
While I agree with the things you said hurt recruiting, I didn't hear it as him blaming the press as much as him blaming the anonymous booster who went to the press. As Jordan Strack said on Twitter, "While we are at it, let me say this...Mike Jinks had never ever backed down or discouraged tough questions or negative media coverage. He understands how this works. He really does. He was upset at a booster. He wasn’t upset with the media." I think it's time for a change, but I agree that Jinks has never blamed the press or hidden from the tough questions thrown at him.guest44 wrote:Mike took a hint from the people who hired him, and wants to blame the negative press for hurting recruiting. Re: Poor Mike Jinks...
Well clearly the booster felt the need to go to the press with it, as a way to be heard. BG got a free pass for 10+ years with John Wagner and the Sentinel, that the administration believes it should be immune to criticism. I'm not sure why they even have Jinks press conferences anymore. We know he is in over his head, as does he. Have Moose do a press conference. Have Moose answer as to why the booster chose that avenue to be heard.
Re: Poor Mike Jinks...
Mad at the press. Mad at a booster. Whatever. The only person Mike Jinks should be mad at is Mike Jinks. If he and his team weren’t an embarrassment every time they step onto a football field, then there wouldn’t be an opportunity to be mad at the press or a booster. The booster had every right to voice his opinion, and if your Mike Jinks and your concerned about what that does to recruiting, then don’t be concerned, because your going to be coaching Texas high school football next year. Your recruiting obviously doesn’t make a difference anyhow.

Verbals were de-committing well before the article was published. Foolish of him to not think high school kids care more about an article in the local paper from an anonymous booster than the results on the field.drumstix2388 wrote:While I agree with the things you said hurt recruiting, I didn't hear it as him blaming the press as much as him blaming the anonymous booster who went to the press. I would love it if at one of these Jinks would just blame Kingston for this whole mess

Re: Poor Mike Jinks...
Here comes Jordan Strack to try defend Jinks. Was he promised a scoop to defend him? The anonymous source doesn’t kill recruiting or hurt the University. Allowing Chris Kingston and his group of people to make a batch of hires that embarrassed the university, hurt it much much more.

Probably a bigger culprit. Lots of ammunition outside of this article for MAC coaches to use.Flipper wrote:Or what other coaches are telling them

Re: Poor Mike Jinks...
I read the Blade article and it mentioned boosterj-S, not a booster. No specific number was given, but obviously more than one of these folks decided it was time to speak out.
Of course, none of that really bothered me much. What probably bothered me most was this quote from Jinks: “I’m not really going to get into any of that, but I will say this: It’s unfair,” Jinks said. “It ain’t unfair to me. This is college football..."
I'm sorry but this is still a university and a representative of the university should NEVER, EVER speak as if he is an uneducated fool. Am I picking nits? Maybe...but as someone who worked in PR/marketing/media all my life -- I know as well as anyone that words mean something...and the wrong use of the English language by someone who is representing a university is asking to be mocked.
The most discouraging thing about the entire article was the fact that Jinks is only in the third year of a five-year deal. My God but Kingston has left a black mark on the athletic program. Between this hire and Huger...he may have set back the entire athletic program decades.

As of this past Saturday's game, in terms of time and number of games, Jinks is halfway through his initial contract. We're 2.5 seasons into the Jinks era.
Not pointing anything out, just thinking about how different things were 2.5 years from now, and how different they could be in 2.5 more years. College football is funny sometimes.

1. I agree that Mike Jinks has done very little to prove that he can coach at the collegiate level.
2. If I'm not mistaken, Jinks didn't bring up the Blade article or the recruiting on his own. He was responding to a question from Strack.
3. VERY cowardly move by the boosters to go to Briggs and air this dirty laundry anonymously. If you want Jinks gone, set up a meeting with Moosbrugger or President Rogers, express your concerns and take out your checkbook. Giving anonymous comments to Briggs is pathetic.
