Caleb Bright

Post by jpfalcon09 »

Interesting article in this morning's Blade, highlighting some shortcomings the university had in providing additional support to Caleb and his parents following his heat stroke incident. I'm glad Moose is identifying that they can do much better in the future.

Meanwhile, @CSexton_BGSU tweets about being the last to leave Atlanta, while Caleb Bright sits in the hospital. I don’t think Scott Bright was too happy about that tweet.

The staff followed protocol, which is good. And since these concerns came about, they are willing to amend the protocol to make it more human-friendly. All in all, I'm glad Caleb is okay - he's a good kid. And it's good that this served as a wake-up call without needing a loss of a young life to do it for them.

I’m not going to make a big issue out of this because, frankly, I don’t think it’s a big issue. Definitely a learning experience for the university. But it does show, again, how clueless this coaching staff is. And looking up Collin Sexton’s twitter feed that guest44 posted to look at the tweet, it just shows how tone deaf this staff is. Instead of the teams Director of Operations posting a support message for the player their leaving behind, he posts “First ones to Atlanta. Last ones to leave. Hardest working group by far”, when in fact, they were leaving a member of their team and a 19-year-old kid behind. Just stupidity. Can’t wait until they all get their walking papers and we get some competence instilled back into this program.

Wasn’t the player with his family?

Yes, his family was there.

The point of the article is that the family believes that someone from BG should have also stayed back with him. Offering emotional support during a very difficult time is important.

Sure. I don't think it's a bad thing, but the tweets act as if we just left a kid all alone.

I had wondered about this before. If a player goes to the hospital on the road, what do they do? In this case thank goodness his parents were there, otherwise it pretty much seems he would have been left in his own in Atlanta.

A representative from the University would have stayed behind if his parents weren't there.

I think they could have had a "hey...you guys want someone here with or do you prefer to be left alone with your son?" kind of talk.

Seems like the least they could do. I guess I’m assuming they didn’t do this?

BGSU always in the news for the negative. What recruits are going to come to this mess?

I have no idea how we were so good in football and basketball from 98-03 when I went there. This is a complete mess now and I think I would have considered transferring. It's a second class student experience now.
