And if you want to call a timeout before the 4th Down play, that's fine with me, but don't waste 16 seconds into the play clock before you call the time out. Either call it right away or don't call it at all. Could have used that 16 seconds or 40 seconds at the end.
Re: Saturday MAC action 10/13
I was getting yard work done while listening to the game. As you could imagine as the shootout went on, I became less productive as I watched more and listened less.
Good effort. But as I feared the defense wore out. Offense was exciting but once it hit shootout mode I expected WMU to win. In general in those situations I take the lower risk offense, which would be WMU due to their run game.
Speaking of run game. I hope Clair is ok. Sophomore Clair and the three freshmen played great.
All in all, team was more ready for the game than before. But still not a complete game. Haven't seen a complete game since .... Kent State 2016?
And also ready for the game ...

I went to the game today. My first home game of the season. Was also at the Ass Bowl last week. Some quick thoughts.
I liked what was happening defensively. It was a really fun first half.
The guys seemed like they were playing with some energy. I think sometimes when you hit rock bottom, it either pulls you apart or brings you together. In sports and in life. It seems like it is bringing the team together. These are the kind of games they'll win next year, but winning, just like losing, is learned. They're slowly learning how to stay competitive, and against quality opponents.
I agree with that 4th down call. I turned to my wife when that happened and said "they wasted a timeout on that".
That sound system and blasting the crappy music...what else can be said. We've been talking about that here for years.
Outside of the Stadium experience was really positive. We parked out by the ice arena and there was a courtesy golf cart going around and they asked if we wanted a ride up to the stadium. We walked instead, but that was a really nice touch.
Overall, I thought it was a good time. Sucks that BG didn't win. They had them where they wanted them and a Homecoming win would have been a huge confidence boost for this team.

Great effort but the results are the same as the past. Not good enough for a win. I can hear the presser now. We are getting there, better effort, almost there, one play away etc.

Where do you get some of this BS you spew? I sit right behind the BG bench, and Loy threw almost every possession on the sideline. He was MORE than warm!

I didn't see the game (I won't pay to watch this train wreck), but both of those things are really poor coaching decisions, in my view. Sadly, I did follow on-line to see what the score was periodically, and I recall thinking (when BG was up by 14 points) that there was no way that lead would hold up, and they'd end up losing again. Yes, it's gotten to the point that I now expect to lose each week. Probably my brain's way of preparing myself for the most likely outcome.gmartin wrote:Loy also entered the game without throwing a single warm-up pass on the sidelines. I don't call tossing a ball 15 yards on a sideline warning up. Jinks was questioned about it afterwards. Todd Walker addressed it as well. Doege threw the ball to Miller over 45 yards in the air. Now I don't know what direction the wind was coming from but surely Doege could have thrown the ball 51 yards. Loy only threw the ball 37 yards.

Kind of hard to warm up for a Hail Mary pass (50+ yards) on the sidelines, don't you think?gmartin wrote:I don't call tossing a ball 15 yards on a sideline warning up.

It doesnt really matter now but you let your starting QB win or lose that game IMO.
Re: Saturday MAC action 10/13
At other college facilities and in the NFL you see QBs throwing about 30 yards on sidelines. While I wasn't at the game yesterday I've been to enough game to see how are quarterbacks warm up. They throw about 10 to 15 yards, light passes. That's not going to get you ready for a 50-yard pass. That's exactly my point. If you can't warm up for a Hail Mary and only are on the sidelines warming up what is the point of going into the game.Rollo83 wrote:Kind of hard to warm up for a Hail Mary pass (50+ yards) on the sidelines, don't you think?gmartin wrote:I don't call tossing a ball 15 yards on a sideline warning up.
Re: Saturday MAC action 10/13
I've seen other coaches do the same and put the stronger QB in that situation. So it's not unprecedented. But I've never actually seen it work.kdog27 wrote:It doesnt really matter now but you let your starting QB win or lose that game IMO.

Re: Saturday MAC action 10/13
Kinda fitting that the Jinks era ended with his decision to let a guy who'd thrown nine passes all year take the last shot at it instead of the starter who was having a pretty good game up to that point.
