Buafflo made a D3 to D1 hire, and they are clearly the best team in the MAC East. So we have proof that jump can be made and work

BG needs to go the Clawson route. They need to find a program builder that's been hiding out in the FBS ranks. No decent coach in D1 is going to come and inherent this mess. Especially not Elko or Day. They make way to much already and at least Day, have turned down bigger jobs. It would be nice to find another coach like Babers, but Babers only came here because of the opportunity. Clawson amassed a really strong team and Babers knew that, and coupling that with the knowledge that the MAC couldn't handle his offense, he knew this was a stepping stone opportunity to get a good job. This team right now isn't a stepping stone opportunity. Jinks absolutely, positively, buried this program. Go out and find a builder.

We need to hire someone that has head coaching experience in college, regardless of level, period. And if they recently moved to a new postion/coordinator coaching job somewhere else, they can make a few phone calls and have a complete staff ready to go (see Dave Clawson). Trying to find a the next hot name at the FBS level as head coach is too much of a gamble in my opinion. With money being paid to Jinks and the new guy we have to hire a proven commodity.

Any coordinators from elite programs are not coming here. Too much of a pay cut.

I’d question moving from San Diego but this guy has a decent pedigree and Midwest ties.

And Moos definitely must know the guy, since he was at San Diego State before coming home.

Would be an interesting hire, for sure.

That was the only reason I found him. He has a bad track record as a HC but that was 20 years ago. He is SD State's RB coach now. There might not be a position coach that has gotten better production in the country. Penny and Humphrey were unbelievable.

4 names that pop out at me now
1 Marcus Freeman
2 Greg Strudrawa
3 Jeff Horton
4 Bo Pelini

I would bet it's none of the above and someone from D2 moving up. He nailed that already once

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Kendal Briles or Brock Spack.

Here's a few more to throw out there.

Nick Monroe

I considered bringing up Spack, I know his name got thrown around in 2008 after Brandon was fired and it didn't seem like anyone on the board wanted him. That was before he got the Illinois State job. Looks like he may have them back on track this season after two 6 win seasons that followed two 10 plus win seasons and conference titles

Nick's been coaching for awhile and he's never risen above secondary coach...that says something. The program seems to be in such a state of disarray. I don't think I want to hire anyone other than a proven CEO...someone like a Clawson ...a HC who's extremely detailed oriented. I don't want to roll the dice on a coordinator or a position coach.

Spack would be interesting except it seems he's dug in like a tick down there in SIU. Has that Purdue/Tiller thing going though...

DJ Durkin isn't an impossibility.

If Durkin were let go at Maryland due to anything other than these allegations, I would agree.

However, I doubt BG takes the chance of taking the negative hit that would come with hiring a coach with allegations of player abuse. Even though he's an alumnus, I doubt he even gets consideration.

Really like idea of Arth or Spack of the few I have looked at. Problem with Arth is he has no D1 experience in anyway. Not as a player or coach.

You are welcome to take our DC George. He is such an amazing coach and is certainly HC material...
