Potential replacement?
Re: Potential replacement?
No thank you on Hazelll. Purdue is my second B1G team and I can’t get over the “deer in the headlights look” every Saturday
Re: Potential replacement?
Purdue alum here. No to Hazell. I am convinced his run at Kent State reflected Doug Martin's recruiting and player development, and lack of game day coaching, rather than Hazell's skills. He was a total bust at Purdue.

Re: Potential replacement?
After watching Moose speak yesterday I am going to say that Mike Houston, of powerhouse James Madison will be our next coach. A question was asked going forward if higher salaries would needed to go ahead as other coaches salaries have increased so I am going to say Mike Houston of James Madison, 5 years 2.5 million. He has been able to recruit very well for an FCS school with 2 P5 schools nearby. Great coach. High graduation success rate. Haven't done my research on off field problems but I'm going to a limb, Mike Houston.
Re: Potential replacement?
What I'm looking for is one of three types of candidates ...
1. Existing HC who has built before. A Dave Clawson.
2. A defensive coordinator who is ready to be a head coach. Bonus points if he can name a good OC.
3. Someone who will make Bowling Green a total pain in the ass during prep week for opponents. Like what Georgia Southern ran in the bowl game in 2015, or triple option, or something unusual and unique.
And regardless, experience in or near Ohio. Neighboring states are fine because every program in those states recruits Ohio.

Want to add 2 namesGlobetrotter wrote:I would like to see
1. Previous head coaching experience
2. Experience in D1 at any level of coaching
3. Experience in the Midwest
Who is that?
Sounds like
Cignetti
DeBoer
Ruggiero
Spack
Partridge
Pelini
Butch Jones
Polian
Jeff Horton
Darrell Hazzel
Matt Canada
Greg Schianno. If Schiano wants to be a head coach again this might be a great fit. He isn't going to get many questions from our media.
Re: Potential replacement?
I've long liked Matt Canada. If the job were open last year he may have been my top pick. And he's doing great work as interim HC at Maryland. However I bet when Maryland cleans house he will get a major offer.

Re: Potential replacement?
Matt Canada has a history of burning bridges, not playing well with others. Putting together a staff for any length of time and consistency would be a chief concern there.
Schiano makes btwn $800k-$1M a year as OSU’s DC. His next shot a major program could very well be Rutgers, where he’s still a legend if and when they fire Chris Ash, which is looking more likely

Here is a few names outside of the usual box
Jerry Mack Rice OC- Coached North Carolina Central (FBS) to three consecutive MEAC titles.
Mike Minter Campbell HC- Former NFL, created the program and has them currently 5-1.
Blake Anderson Ark St HC- Probably can't afford him and he will go to a bigger program
Zac Roper Duke OC/QBs- Under Cutcliff since 2008 and hopefully has learned from him about coaching QBs

Re: Potential replacement?
If Gus Malzahn gets fired this year, would he be a candidate? I'm normally not a fan of retreads. But if defending SEC west champion Auburn fires Malzahn, it is for the sin of not keeping pace with the machine Nick Saban has built. Hardly a deadly sin.

Arkansas was ready to give him 50 million last December. I dont think he falls this far.

We could sign him to a 100 year contract for 50 million ...kdog27 wrote:Arkansas was ready to give him 50 million last December. I dont think he falls this far.

My gut tells me it will be Carl...but I've trimmed down a bit lately, so my gut might be dumber than it was
