Potential replacement?
Re: Potential replacement?
I'm still sticking with Mike Houston.
Re: Potential replacement?
I have no idea what direction they are going. My favorites if I could pick would be Houston and Cignetti, with strong consideration of Holt and Canada.

Re: Potential replacement?
I think it's doubtful Pelini is retained as the coach unless the team responds positively and shows some marked improvement. I do hope that if Pelini is not kept as the coach though that whoever is the new guy can convince him to stay on to run the defense.

Re: Potential replacement?
Some are implying Pelini might have been a head coach in waiting. But this would imply Moose strongly urged Jinks to replace his defensive coordinator last year and even signed off on Pelini or connected Jinks with Pelini .
I'd be surprised if Moose was managing Jinks at that level of detail. So I don't think Pelini has an inside track here, just a chance to audition for the job given that he happens to be here right now.

Re: Potential replacement?
I'm watching Michigan / MSU right now. Both defenses are so impressive. Michigan has the athletic edge and maybe the best DC in the nation. MSU does it with a bunch of 3* and 4* recruits.
If there is anyone on either defensive coaching staff is head coach ready, count me as interested.

Too bad this wasn't last year and the guy currently at Kent State would have been available. I am impressed with what Sean Lewis has done at Kent this year.

He should have been the guy to get the job after Babers left. Massive whiff.Rollo83 wrote:Too bad this wasn't last year and the guy currently at Kent State would have been available. I am impressed with what Sean Lewis has done at Kent this year.

Re: Potential replacement?
I was at the Kent / Akron game today. Lewis is far from impressive so far as Kent is now 1-7.Rollo83 wrote:Too bad this wasn't last year and the guy currently at Kent State would have been available. I am impressed with what Sean Lewis has done at Kent this year.

I again offer Nick Holt, DC at Purdue, for your considerstion.
Purdue with the season's biggest upset, in blowout fashion, holding OSU to 20 points - 14 of which are in garbage time. 76 rushing yards. All with players who won 2 games 2 years ago.
He's got to be a candidate.

Re: Potential replacement?
Not sure he had much to do with that loss by OSU. Pretty much everyone was predicting them to go down tonight (including me). This team has been close to a freefall for a few weeks now. The energy is gone from the sideline, and the really, truly bad position coaches that Meyer has hired have all done a very poor job. Davis (linebackers), Grinch (DBs), Stud (OL) and even Schiano have all done horribly this season.MarkL wrote:I again offer Nick Holt, DC at Purdue, for your considerstion.

Don't be surprised if Meyer ends up stepping down. What happened with Smith damaged him in ways we probably don't know about yet. I think he's burned out and pretty much done. Not sure how you recharge your battery after all that...and honestly, he has looked completely lost along the sideline for several weeks.
Please do not consider Studawra as a coach. I'd rather go with someone on the rise, not someone whose star is in decline.

100% correct. Stud or Coke Carl would set the program back another 5 years than it already is.Falconwriter wrote:Please do not consider Studawra as a coach. Re: Potential replacement?
The next head coach needs to be someone with experience running a college football program and who has familiarity with the BG footprint. That might limit it to only a few candidates but BG needs a proven head coach, not a coordinator.MarkL wrote:I again offer Nick Holt, DC at Purdue, for your considerstion.

Re: Potential replacement?
The right coordinator can do it. Dave Doeren was a DC at Wisconsin when NIU hired him. All he did was win 2 MAC championships and make the Orange Bowl. The right coordinator who has been an instrumental part of a build, I can get behind.
Why Holt? Turned around a defense overnight. Brought the best out of underachieving players. Made a dominant defense opposite an exciting offense. Was instrumental in elevating WKU and totally rebuilding Purdue. And has recruited BG's territory since 2014. Doesn't that all sound like what the doctor ordered?
I'm not sure where I prioritize Holt against Cignetti and Houston. But I solidly have those as my top three.

Re: Potential replacement?
My interest is there. Been at some big programs like USC, Washington and Arkansas. Makes $500,000/yr at Purdue. We could probably offer more to be competitive. We have to do that. My only concern is a poor record at Idaho in 19 games as HC but it seems every coach at Idaho does poorly. But he did win a bowl game for WKU as interim coach. He's 56.MarkL wrote:I again offer Nick Holt, DC at Purdue, for your considerstion.

And if Urban does step down after the season, why not make him an offer? Sure we can't offer millions but when the man said "I would do anything for BG Football", then? All he can do is say no. Had enough of the intense microscope and bright lights? Come on back to BG and build a mid major powerhouse....warts and all.

Kent has been in almost every game this year. Lewis has that offense playing at a much higher level with the grad transfer at QB. They've competed with the likes of Illinois (should have won), Penn State (for a half), Mississippi, Ohio (should of won), and now Akron (could of won). Give Lewis the chance to recruit some talent and fully implement his system and he'll be a force to deal with in the MAC east.Falconfreak90 wrote:I was at the Kent / Akron game today.
