Urban Meyer stepping down
Urban Meyer stepping down
Paul Finebaum is reporting that there is a good chance this will be Meyer's last year at Ohio State. Finebaum stated that Meyer has been complaining of chest pains and migraines, very similar to the issues he had at Florida before he took his year off. Finebaum also said the stress is getting to Meyer.
Maybe Meyer pulls a Frank Solich and leaves a P5 school and comes back to BG, 10 year deal??? Would you want him back?

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
Not sure how reliable. That said. From the beginning of the season I've seen strong strong parallels between 2010 Florida and 2018 OSU:
- departure of longtime QB
- mass departures for NFL
- changing the offense
- losing some control of the locker room
- coming off a massive disappointment (missing national title in 2009, missing playoff in 2017)
Meyer seems to be as good of a short term program builder as you can find. But he has only twice stayed someplace long. He failed to sustain at Flordia and we are seeing similar signs at OSU. I love his style of play, no doubt, so whenever he leaves the game it will be a loss for the whole sport.
Maybe this is his last year. I've thought that for a while and always figured at some point he would emerge at Notre Dame. Or maybe he gets it all figured out, including whatever is happening to him on the sidelines, and keeps going.

Didn't read the article, but I figured this would be his last year as soon as all the stuff hit in August.

Funny thing, but while Joyce and I were watching his news conference, I said, he doesn’t look healthy and she agreed. Sometimes you’ve got to wonder if the crazy $$$ these guys get is really worth it in terms of ruining your health. ( I know, how do you pass on 7 mill. A year.)
Reality says that 7 mill. Should cover you for the rest of your life...if you live that long.
High pressure places like OSU really drain your health.

The way Michigan's D is playing right now...The GAME could be really ugly for OSU

LOL. I know what you mean, but I think 100% of people live for the rest of their lives. . .Class of 61 wrote:. . . Reality says that 7 mill. Should cover you for the rest of your life...if you live that long. . .

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
Been thinking of Urban coming back to BG for a while. Sure we can't pay him the millions he makes now but I keep going back to that golf outing at Catawba this past summer. Saying things like "I would do anything for BG football". The pressure to win in the MAC is nothing like the "power 5". Well Urban, we'll be looking for a new coach after the season and I, for one, would take ya back in a heartbeat...warts and all. lol. Seriously, all he can do is say no. IF he steps down....this is very similar to what happened to him at Fla. He's 54, has 3 BCS/CFP Titles and has won BiG at two of the top programs in the country. He was born in toledo.
Not as far fetched as you think....Why not us, why not now? If you have the 2001 BG season highlight tape (lol, VHS) you'll understand that.
Cmon home, Urban.

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
ABSOLUTELY. Think of the recruits we could get....think of the Doyt being packed simply because he is on the sidelines. Think of what he could do to elevate not only BG, but the MAC as a whole. We ALWAYS lose our coaches when they're successful in the MAC. We will never be on the Power 5 level but we can def improve as a conference.gmartin wrote:Paul Finebaum is reporting that there is a good chance this will be Meyer's last year at Ohio State. We obviously can't pay him $7 million a year unless that mega millions winner in SC is a BG fan. IF he steps down, if I'm Moose, I give the guy a call to see if he has any interest in the job. We need a coach. All he can do is say no and we're no worse off. But what a Falcon story that would be...he returns to NW Oh and the place he got his first HC job.

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
I wrote in a post elsewhere after the Purdue loss that I wouldn't be at all surprised if he stepped down after this year. He has not looked well in too many games, and the headaches he's been having are apparently getting worse. He does have a cyst in his brain that was drained a couple years ago, and it may need addressing again. Combine everything that has happened since this summer, and he is undoubtedly under a great amount of stress.
Having said all that, if he does step down, it won't be to go right back into coaching...at any level. It's a nice fantasy to think he'd come back to BG, but that's all it is.

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
If he did anything at the collegiate level I could see him acting as a consultant/fundraiser...I think he'd do well in that capacity for us

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
He's not coming back here in any way shape or form. BG equates to paranoia with Meyer which may accentuate the chest pains and migraines. Maybe the BTN next to DiNardo would be a better fit.

Re: Urban Meyer stepping down
I can't see him having anything to do with BG either. I could be wrong, but he's never struck me as someone that would want to be doing tv commentary. When he does media time it almost seems to me that he's tolerating it rather than enjoy it. Hard to see him in that role.
He's made enough money already that he doesn't have to be in any role at all if he doesn't want to, once he steps away. Although, he also doesn't seem like the personality type to sit on a beach doing nothing, indefinitely.
Maybe an administrative position with a P5 conference office or a honcho with the NCAA, running the selection committee or something along those lines?
