Potential replacement?
Re: Potential replacement?
Lance Leipold already jumped from D3 to FBS. But Buffalo is the one who bore that risk. That means a program like Maryland or anyone else opening up at end of year only takes the risk of MAC to P5 jump if they hire him.
Yeah, Buffalo takes the risk and a big guy gets the reward. Such is life.

Re: Potential replacement?
Here’s a name no one has thrown out yet and follows the trend of Moose’s other two hires ... relatively-speaking younger Ohio coaches from lower Division with a fair amount of success.
The name is Mike Jacobs. Head Coach at Notre Dame College. In his third year, he’s 26-5 and counting ... will go the playoffs for the third time
He’s originally from Maumee and played for Cooper and Tress as a long snapper so he knows what major D1 ball is suppose to look like. He’s a DL coach by trade and we all know that’s not exactly a bright spot recently for the Falcons.
Former Falcon Jahmal Brown is his current DC.
By my math he’s somewhere around 40-43

Re: Potential replacement?
Didn’t go back to look on this thought. Removing Interim from Pelini title if 2nd half version of BG finishes the season. Beat Akron and give UB close fight.
Re: Potential replacement?
I'd be nervous about that given the small sample size. That is how WVU got stuck with Bill Stewart.

Re: Potential replacement?
Fair enough, but you could always do a 3 year contract so you don’t get tied into something.MarkL wrote:I'd be nervous about that given the small sample size. That is how WVU got stuck with Bill Stewart.

Re: Potential replacement?
I have a hard time believing anyone would take a three year deal to rebuild a program that's been nuked the way our's has. You'd have to be pretty desperate...and if you aren't, a three year contract would encourage you to be desperate...and by extension...probably a bit reckless
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Potential replacement?
Maybe that's exactly what's needed. Someone who knows they have to take a couple risks. Someone willing to do things a little unconventional. Doing things the conventional way can be rather boring and, unless you're absolutely great at it, you just blend in with the rest of the crowd.Flipper wrote:I have a hard time believing anyone would take a three year deal to rebuild a program that's been nuked the way our's has. Re: Potential replacement?
I'd pass on Pelini. I hope he's retained as the DC but the program needs a fresh face and voice.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Potential replacement?
My current top three, in order ...
1. Curt Cignetti
2. Mike Tressel
3. Nick Holt
Working with the assumption that someone else hires Houston.

Just beat a one win team. Hardly worthy of a promotion.

Re: Potential replacement?
By reckless I mean using a lot of JUCO's, boderline academics and kids with off field issues....That's the approach Brandon used his last couple of years here and it wasn't prettypdt1081 wrote:Maybe that's exactly what's needed. Tough rough crowd regarding Pelini
Re: Potential replacement?
I think Pelini has done a really nice job in the situation he's been given. You can't expect an immediate turnaround when there's no real time for them to change things from a football standpoint from week to week.
His defense has improved significantly over the course of the season, probably due to them slowly being able to implement his system. It's fair to note that he's played a big role in in changing the culture in the last few weeks, and it's clear that the team has not given up on him.
I don't think it will be him, but if Carl gets the job, I will back it 100%.

Re: Potential replacement?
I haven't seen enough of him to really say. He beat the worst team in the MAC. I am convinced if Jinks were coaching we would have played both halves the way we played the first and lost, so there's something.Tony4BG wrote:Tough rough crowd regarding Pelini
Can't really evaluate where I put him on my list until end of season. I have way more on the top three I listed. I've seen them build. I've seen them recruit. I've seen their teams and their effort level. I've seen them develop players. I've seen their tendencies, both good and bad, hence ability to rank.
So Pelini. Not saying I wouldn't back him. I'm saying I haven't seen enough of a body of work to compare. I'll revisit this after the final two.

Fair enough Mark. Just looking forward to something happening soon.
