I don't know all the details. I don't think he's deserving of the job for more reasons than just his history. But the drug thing is enough for me to not even waste time talking to him.

In public. On video.
I understand the drug charges are questionable. I also know Moose will look at that with all the seriousness it deserves.
Ok. I got it. Because Jans was caught on video and seen in public being drunk and patting a girl on the butt (I refuse to call it sexual assault until information comes out that it was unwanted – for all I know, it was meaningless flirting), that’s so much worse than a guy who was accused of doing major drugs in his last head coaching position, just a few years back. Let’s run the first guy out of town and give that second guy the most lucrative job at the university! So hypocritical. Glad you cleared that up.
Jans undoubtedly and undeniably did something wrong. On video, no way around it. Pelini, well there are a lot of questions as I understand it regarding the allegations. According to Jinks, FAU cleared Pelini of the charges. There are questions about the whole situation. It is not black and white and there is no video. That's what I'm getting at.
Moose has to do his homework on the situation if he's thinking about Pelini. The allegations are serious. You can't promote a drug free culture if the head man is doing drugs. And for all anyone knows, Pelini is not a serious candidate.

Those allegations were investigated and Pelini was cleared...what if some person with an ax to grind down in FL just threw that allegation out there to get him? People are slandered with baseless allegations like that every day. Do you really want to deny a man employment now and in the future over baseless allegations?

Saying you don't want to hire someone because he was accused of something years ago...accused and cleared to whatever extent that is possible...seems completely unfair

Or you could just say that Pelini shouldn't get the job because he hasn't done a thing to earn the job. He is the interim coach of a 2-8 team with a horrendous defense. A defense led by him. Then combine that with his past head coaching mess. whatever it was, and just ask why would BGSU settle for him? Thankfully, BG will likely be thanking Carl and several others for the effort, and moving forward within the next 10 days.

And that's fine...it's hard to make a case strictly on his achievements here today. I don't think you should use allegations that were found to be...at worst...unproven...as an automatic disqualifier

This was my point. I don't think he's done a thing to show he deserves the job.

The fact that he has the past he does is enough to make it a lock that I'm not even wasting time thinking about him as a possibility for the position. I don't know the details, don't know whether he did or did not do what he was accused of. I do know that the possibility exists and that's enough for me to not waste time with a guy who hasn't done anything as an interim to wow me in the first place.

It is my understanding that everyone around the program, including the Athletic Director, knew Pelini and others on the staff were doing drugs. The official release of the university mentioned he wasn’t fired because of drugs and was fired for other reasons. My interpretation was the university had him on more tangible allegations that they didn’t have to put in the time and effort of doing a full investigation. It opens the university up to major lawsuits if they fire him for drug use without doing a full, thorough investigation. They didn’t want to do that investigation because they already had probable cause in other areas, therefore they announced he wasn’t fired because of drug use. Needless to say, his time at FAU was a total train wreck, on and off the field, and he doesn’t deserve to sniff the head coaching position at BGSU.

Interesting replies from everyone regarding Pelini. Just imagine if FAU reason for firing him were the drug allegations? Carl already sued the guy that turned him in. Read articles about it! Seems fishy to me with all the allegations going around back then.

We will see what happens end this month early Dec.

I've never met Carl Pelini. But I do know he has sued before for defamation. That's something CrazyFan may want to think about.

I appreciate Pelini stepping in as he's done...but he isn't the right hire for this program, at this time. They need a younger, more energetic guy whose career is on an upward trajectory; someone who understands today's college game (the rules heavily favor offenses) and that you need an outstanding offense with a capable defense to be successful. Hopefully, Moose has his sights on someone he can get in here fairly soon, so they can hit the ground running on recruiting -- and keeping the talented players on the roster now will be at the top of that priority list.

From my dealings with the athletic department over the last year (plus), I have every faith they will get this hire right.

Pelini is an upgrade over Jinks. That is for sure.

But I would suggest a look at Indiana's sbnation page for some satire that applies here. https://www.crimsonquarry.com/2018/11/1 ... head-coach
From a page on coaching candidates for Purdue:
Neil Armstrong

With Brohm potentially coming home to Louisville, Purdue will need a guy to come home to West Lafayette. And in case you haven’t heard, Neil Armstrong went to Purdue. He may have passed away a few years ago, but I still think he’d be an upgrade from Darrell Hazell. It’s time for Purdue to go back to its roots, and who better than Neil to get the alums excited?

Everett Withers is out at Texas State. Wouldn't be shocked if Mike Jinks is a candidate for that job. There are now six openings.

Why? How is Jinks qualified for that job? I'm sure there are plenty of former Texas high school coaches that became college head coaches who won more than 7 games in 3 years.
Jinks should go back to either high school coaching or college as an assistant. It would be better for his career.
