Reddit seems to think we made a bad decision. Hard to say, but VT and BC fans were not thrilled with his offense. Hard to say sometimes, because both Beemer and Addazio haven't had prolific offenses, no matter who called the plays. Some think he will be better as a HC, but most of those fan bases seem happy that he is gone.

They are idiot fans who don't seem to understand. I'll take the views of guys like Carr, Beamer and Meyer any day over that drivel. Guess we'll find out.

HC and OC have very different responsibilities. Tennessee fans ran Clawson out of town. He turned out all right.

He's been an OC for like 10 years at tons of different places. If you are bad at that you don't get to keep doing it.

With that said that reddit roasts him. Anyone check any of the message boards?

Watching the press conference. In typical BG fashion it starts 15 minutes into the video.

I am betting no one asks why they hired a guy who's offense was terrible.

I think you always take the fans' perspective with a grain of salt. Loeffler's been in some pretty poor situations the past 6-7 years of his career, being let go after Chizik and Beamer were terminated. Even still, a poor coordinator does not make a poor coach. I will judge him based upon his merits here at BG and not anything off his resume.

Texas Tech fans all told us about how amazing Jinks was and how much they would miss him.

Red Wings fans think Kenny Holland is an idiot...but he's rebuilt their system completely without ever being truly awful.

Fans...myself included...seldom get it right on the first take

I watched the press conference after so I could skip around a bit and rewind if needed. A few things stuck out related to the set up of the event. Can we not get a camera centered on the podium? At the end the camera man who was moving about in the picture was really distracting. Also, get a damn wireless mic for those asking questions!

Now for the content of the press conference. I was not blown away. That means nothing when it comes to coaching, but I thought he would have been a little more put together. I can understand switching BG and BC, but get the name of the school correct. His comments seemed to wander around like they were put together quickly. But, more practice being the guy in front of the cameras will make things easier.

In the end, the page has turned.

All we can do is welcome coach Loeffler in with open arms and judge him based on what he does here. Which, really, is the case no matter who we had hired. I prefer his resume to some of the others we were looking at, but in the end resumes don't win games.

Have to take fan opinions with a grain of salt. ESPECIALLY fans from those big time football places that don't look at the game the same way as we do. Look no further than Columbus with the sheer number of fans that want to run Urban out of town for ONLY going 11-1 this season. They all expect a top 10 defense and top 10 offense every year because they're Fill-in-team-x.

That said, I don't put much stock in the crap that Carr, Urban, etc spew either. Coaching is a fraternity and these guys have each others back to a fault. They'll always blow smoke up yer ass about how good a former assistant really is. I'm quite certain had you called Urban about Zach Smith a year ago you would have gotten nothing but glowing reviews about him as a person and a coach. That's just the way this thing works.

I haven't watched enough of Loeffler's offenses to really have an opinion of him as an OC. But success or failure as an OC is a limited indicator for how he'll be as a head man anyhow (unless of course he plans to serve as his own OC). As noted Clawson is a far better HC than OC. Hopefully the stuff we've read about his teaching/understanding of offense is legit. We'll get a good idea of where he is real quickly when we start to see the type of staff he can put together. Jinks's staff was an abomination, and it was clear right away. Hopefully Loeffler is able to put together a much better group of assistants.

Yeah I watched it later too, and man it was awful production wise. Why would you post the video on the site with 15 mins of dead air? How hard would it have been for the athletic department to quickly edit the video before putting it up on the site?

As for the content, meh. Wasn't blown away, he seemed a bit nervous in front of the camera. But the best introductory coach presser I've ever heard was Hue Jackson's so that shows what sort of indicator press conferences are. I'm anxious to see the direction he takes the program. Really has only one direction to go.
