Fields starts, Laster doesn't play

Post by Globetrotter »

Any gumshoes out there know why?

I am struggling to find anyone who actually covers this team in the media. Does the blade? BG news? BG paper?

The Sports ID doesn't tend to say these things.

Yup. A glaring vacancy and in the lineup and nobody covering the game bothers to fncking mention it. Whatever.

Since the retirement of John Wagner I'm not sure we even have anybody covering our sports. I hope Briggs starts writing more about BG, he isn't afraid of upsetting the department the way others are...

They've definitely cut back. The Blade's beat writer is Nick Piotrowicz, sort of, but he made it clear this fall he was splitting BGSU football duties with Ohio State football. He did not make the trip to Oregon, for example. Wagner and his predecessors used to make every trip.

If memory serves, they had Ashley Bastock write up the Cleveland State game. She's been with the paper for only a couple of months. I got the feeling Ashley didn't got to Cleveland, but just wrote up a story based on the box score or what she heard on the radio. (I could be wrong.)

I can't blame a writer covering one of her first BGSU basketball games, potentially from the newsroom, for not knowing about a major roster change. But it isn't good for us. I've got to think Wagner would have picked up on it.

Forgive my ignorance, but I do not check on-line media all the time. Doesn't the S-T cover every major BG sporting event, but especially football and basketball (men & women)? If they've also cut back, then that's just sad.
