The gutsiest homer pick so far this season has to go to cajunuahfan who, by being the ONLY player to correctly pick Huntsville's win over Bemidji Saturday night, joins Bronco Hockey Fan, IceKnight81, and TalonsUpPuckDown as the week 9 quad-winners with a total of 26 points. And with that big win this week, Bronco Hockey Fan jumps back into first place in what is becoming a two-person race for the McNaughton Cup with SweeneyHawksHockey. As we approach the halfway point of the season, two Nacho fans seem to know the WCHA teams better than the WCHA players. Can they keep it up?

What a great weekend for Falcon hockey!

As we head into the break there is a lot going on in the WCHA Pick 'Em world, but first things first. Jbakerifm won week 11 with a total score of 21 including 3 bonus points. Speaking of bonus, there were only 10 PP/SH/EA/EN goals this week with 9 players picking up bonus points. With respect to the games, 2 players correctly picked Huntsville's upset over Tech, 3 players correctly picked the Seawolves to upset the Beavers, and 4 players correctly picked us to sweep Mankato (Hockey John, Jbakerifm, kckrieg84, TalonsUpPuckDown) -- but no one picked all 3. Nine players picked Mankato to sweep us.

Week 12 kicks off the holiday tournament season. Here's where things are a little different from our normal weeks:

1) Since there are two WCHA teams in the GLI I've posted the possible second round matchups for Tech and Lake Superior. Pick all the games, I will only use the actual game(s) played.
2) I've been unable to determine what NCAA OT rules will be in place for each of the 3 tournaments (Catamount Cup, Desert Classic, GLI) so while I've provided the option to pick a tie, I recommend avoiding that option as I highly suspect each tournament game will end with a winner.
3) Week 13 begins with a Thursday game. I'll make sure to have the entry form available early, but for those of you who habitually submit your picks at the last second on Friday, beware.

The week 12 holiday tournament co-winners were Critical Thinker and Icd80 who posted scores of 27 points each. At the top of the standings it is rapidly becoming a two-person race for the McNaughton Cup between Bronco Hockey Fan and SweeneyHawksHockey and a three-person race for the Mason Cup between those two and GIWAN. I also want to point out how mikeeddy19 has steadily worked into a playoff position after spotting the field nearly 30 games.

Big update this week, I apologize for the length. First off, you will find the playoff rules below the weekly standings.

The winner of week 15 was cajunuahfan who posted a score of 25 points including 7 bonus points. BroncoHockeyFan rode the bonus wave back into a first place tie with SweeneyHawksHockey who still clings to a 2 game lead in the quest for the Mason Cup. The average GWG time in the UAA/UAH series was 32 min (rounded down) while the total PP, SH, EN, EA goals was 18. potternum claimed 9 bonus points which led the bonus picking.

The fight for the Jeff Sauer championship trophy starts up in less than two months.

Playoff Seeding
Due to this year’s expansive field, the top 32 players will make the playoffs. Matches are head-to-head, single elimination with snake seeding for bracket pairings (1 vs. 32, 2 vs. 31, etc.). Seeding and tie breakers are determined in the following manner based on regular season results:
1) Total Points (including bonus)
2) Points (excluding bonus)
3) Total Points earned during the final 2 (or 3, or 4, or…) weeks of the WCHA regular season including bonuses until the tie is broken. Basically the “hotter” player down the stretch is favored.

Playoff Rounds
o First round will be based on the Friday, March 8 WCHA Quarterfinal playoff games with bonuses (4 games total, field reduced from 32 to 16).
o Second round will be based on the Saturday, March 9 WCHA Quarterfinal playoff games with bonuses (4 games total, field reduced from 16 to 8)
o Quarterfinals will be based on the Friday, March 15 WCHA Semifinal playoff games with bonuses (2 games total, field reduced from 8 to 4).
o Semifinals will be based on the Saturday, March 16 WCHA Semifinal playoff games with bonuses (2 games total, field reduced from 4 to 2).
o The championship matchup will be based on the WCHA Championship game on March 23 plus bonuses.

Scoring
o Same as the regular season other than games won’t end in a tie so 3 pts for a win, 0 pts for a loss.
o 2-3 bonus questions for each round worth 1-5 points.
o Ties go to the higher seed.

SweeneyHawksHockey had an unusually challenged week and finds that Bronco Hockey Fan has retaken the lead in the standings and GIWAN now leads in the race for the Mason Cup by .001 percentage points. Five weeks remain in the season.

Mavsfan19 had a killer week capturing 26 out of a possible 28 points including being the only player to correctly predict the outcome of all 6 games. This score moved Mavsfan19 from being a playoff outsider last week (rank 36/12 points out) to a 31 seed. Bronco Hockey Fan holds on to first place, however, there is now a 3-way tie for the Mason Cup between giwan, SweeneyHawksHockey, and TalonsUpPuckDown.

BGSURICK was the week 19 winner posting 19 points. I like the symmetry. The talk of the USCHO Pick 'Em thread was the massive 252 penalty minutes this weekend, 126 of which happened in the War Memorial Arena (Slater Family Ice Arena) between the Charlestown Chiefs (us) and the Syracuse Bulldogs (UA). Only one player, cajunuahfan, picked up bonus points this week and those 4 points may secure his ticket to the playoffs. Speaking of playoffs, With 2 weeks remaining only 9 points separate the 31 and 34 ranked players (top 32 make the playoffs). Not to state the obvious, but the key the key to making the playoffs is getting your picks in for the week. At the other end of the standings, Bronco Hockey Fan's lead continues to grow week-by-week. While no one is willing to concede the McNaughton Cup just yet, a 21-point lead appears insurmountable. With the McNaughton all but decided, it's the race for the Mason Cup that's captured the attention of the FloSports WCHA beat writers. With 2 weeks left, the Mason Cup standings are as follows:
