WCU vs BG...feel the appreciation FLOW!!!
WCU vs BG...feel the appreciation FLOW!!!
Don't you all feel so appreciated today that they have a game nobody can attend and call it fan appreciation day? So naturally, I"ll be a crappy employee and watch the stream. Looks like they sold about 300 of those $1 tickets...shocker.
Down 13-11 early. This team shoots a lot of 3s; we don't defend the 3 well at all. They're also something like 3-10 but they've played an infinitely more impressive schedule than we have.

We played MUCH better the final 5-6 minutes of the half. Take a 32-25 lead into halftime. Finally started guarding the perimeter and got some live ball turnovers which we parlayed into easy buckets. Then Turner hits a contested 3 to end the half.

We are going to win. I hope the new guy gets in.
Re: WCU vs BG...feel the appreciation FLOW!!!
Well once we started guarding the arc this one was a mismatch. Turner with a big day.
Benches are emptied now, playing out the final couple mins.

There were supposed to be free ornaments. Must have only had about 20 because there weren’t any when we got there.

Not happy about a number of issues with this game:
1. Fan appreciation on Friday afternoon when all but retirees and some area students are working makes no sense. Lets be honest they have failed to get BG townies interested in the program and are grasping at straws thinking the first day of BG schools break aimed at them would be a success.
2. Quit giving away $1 tickets, $5 for a limited number tickets to EVERY game sitting in the four corner sections in the NE and SE would be a better promotion.
3. No more $1 hot dogs - make them $2 for every game along with a $2 small pop and $2 bag of popcorn. If concessions attract people then do it every game and make it reasonable for a family. This could be huge for double-header games where parents need a snack for kids.
Three complaints to finish out the year is plenty. Merry Christmas to all and lets hope for a great Falcon New Year in our future.

Re: WCU vs BG...feel the appreciation FLOW!!!
I honestly don't get having a "fan appreciation day" when the students aren't there. And having it at a time when most people are working? Who is running the marketing department? My degree may not be in marketing, but I've worked in media/PR all my career -- and it seems pretty dumb to me to schedule things like this -- at least not if you actually want people to attend.
Apparently, the people at the top of the food chain must disagree, or we'd have seen some improvements in this area during the last several years. Instead, we are seeing the same poor marketing efforts being repeated.

My guess is they wanted to get another game in before Christmas and scheduled it at 1 to aid travel arrangements or whatever. Then they realized nobody would show up and hoped that tagging it fan appreciation day (with $1 tickets) would attract some folks. Yet again a complete whiff by the marketing group. It was poorly attended and they alienated those of us that actually do regularly attend games. And really pissed me off costing my kid his favorite game of the year (it's the only time we ever load up on dogs and popcorn).
Moose and Hughes both got my opinion on the matter in their email, but of course I got no response. I find the whole thing a bit insulting to be honest, but in reality we should be used to it. They haven't had competence running this program in so long they wouldn't recognize it.

Keep writing to Moose about this crap. I honestly believe he wants to change the culture of inept-ness surrounding the athletic program, and this has got to be somewhere on that list.hammb wrote:My guess is they wanted to get another game in before Christmas and scheduled it at 1 to aid travel arrangements or whatever. Bryant, LIU Brooklyn, Northeastern, Chattanooga, Liberty, Oklahoma State, and Orgeon State all hosted games that started at noon the same day.
UMBC hosted a 1:00 tip off.
Austin Peay tipped off at 1:30, UNC Asheville at 2:00.
Western Carolina traveled 549 miles to BG
Alabama State 597 miles to Liberty
Kent State 2,487 miles to Oregon State
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest the attendance for the BG game would not have been that much better if it tipped at 7:00 or later. So, if the Catamounts were able to get home at a decent hour and back to their families the next day for Christmas, that's terrific. Most teams gathered back on their campuses for practice Christmas night.
Yes, it is curious that the Western Carolina game was designated fan appreciation day. The rest of the whining is just juvenile nonsense.

8 of the 300 other teams did this too. So it's cool guys. The goal of our basketball team should be to make sure our opponent is home in time to open their xbox 1's.AyZiggy97 wrote:Bryant, LIU Brooklyn, Northeastern, Chattanooga, Liberty, Oklahoma State, and Orgeon State all hosted games that started at noon the same day.

So if this game had been played at 7:00 pm, and had not been designated a Fan Appreciation Day, everything would have been hunky-dory? I honestly don't get what people are complaining about either. The game probably drew roughly the same crowd as it would've if it had started at 7:00.Globetrotter wrote:8 of the 300 other teams did this too. So it's cool guys. Playing afternoon games on a weekday is asinine. Designating it fan appreciation day is insulting on top of it.
Also, I think you're wrong. My grandma was able to go to the game and said she felt sorry for the players at how poorly attended it was. Noticeably less than normal games. And that says nothing about the crowd they could pull for a legit fan appreciation day with discounted tickets at a normal gametime.
