Why can't we ever have pretty things?
So very tired of losing games to that cesspool.

We don't win when Turner plays that poorly. Throw in some awful shooting beyond the arc for us and our inability to defend the arc and it was a loss. We played hard and battled for most of the game but could not find a way to make the important plays at the end.
Must bounce back on Tuesday against CMU.
But God I hate losing to UT...

Rebounding
Can anyone let me in on how we've suddenly gotten out rebounded 3 of the last 4 games?
Not one of those teams has the record of beastly rebounding that we did before this stretch. So what changed?

ALL of those people standing around the upper rim in our little Stroh Center were the ones royally screwed.

We have to stop switching bigs onto guards. I love Wiggins, but he can't guard the perimeter.
We also need to stop going under screens on shooters. It gives them space every time, and I legitimately think that was why Toledo made 6 or 7 of their threes yesterday. It was due to simple adjustments that were unfortunately either not made by the coaching staff or not executed by the players.
Regardless, it's the little things like that which separate the good teams from the great ones. We have potential to be a great MAC team this year, so we've gotta keep working. Every single goal of ours is still in front of us.
Beat CMU on Tuesday night. I'll be there, ready for the bounce back.

They did, but I think it was aided by our play. Turner was especially off. The early foul trouble never let him get into a rhythm then he kept trying to force it later, just never got into the game to his usual level. The woke team struggled shooting from outside and a big reason for that is we had way too many isolation perimeter jumpers. It sucks when guys miss open threes but there is no reason to shoot so many 3s off the dribble as we did last night. And Turner had at least 3 if the worst shots you can take in basketball: off the dribble long twos.zete wrote:

To mbenecke's point we got killed on switches last night. Several instances really stand out. Once Wiggins and Plowden got lost and literally neither was even looking at the UT big shooting a completely uncontested 3. On another Turner inexplicably shifted off the guy with the ball leaving him completely unguarded until Lillard got over just in time to foul him and give them the 4 point play.
Those were just 2 examples of what was really about 40 minutes of mediocre to bad perimeter defense. Through it all though we had a chance to win until completely taking apart in the final 3 mins.
Just sucks when we finally drop a home game it has to be UT, but they have a good team and played better than we did, especially down the stretch.
Bounce back against CMU and let's win the East, that's what matters now.
