Glad he's calling out the students, specifically. I get that it's hard to get a lot of alum/townies to the game on a weeknight. People have jobs/kids/etc., and you're not going to have alum come in from Dayton, Sandusky, or Toledo on those days. They have to save those trips for the weekend. But for a school with a 16k (ish?) undergrad population, there's no reason that 500 students can't make it. And 500 students would (or should) be about as loud as 2000 of us old folks (can I say that at 31?) who might turn up.mbenecke wrote:https://www.toledoblade.com/sports/coll ... 0190219187
Read this article and take it to heart. Let's freaking pack the place next Tuesday against Miami.
(Great write-up by Briggs - because he has a very real point)

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

Re: 2 sellouts in a row
I only live about 20 mins away, so I'm not coming all the way from Dayton or Sandusky, Toledo is about a wash. But my 3 year old has been to probably all but maybe 10 home games in his life. And he had a BLAST at the UT game (he actually didn't get to go to the UB game with the later tipoff). The last 2 games though he's wondered why, "there's nobody here!?"drumstix2388 wrote:Glad he's calling out the students, specifically. But hey, my kid is unique, and I'm obviously a bigger Falcon hoops fan than 99% of our alumni base.
That said, Briggs's article is on point. I saw him at the UT game (damn, he's tall), and he was on a mission somewhere. I wanted to stop him and thank him for his writing. Probably the best writing BG & UT get...one of the few local reporters we've had willing to call the AD's out for screwing up. And now that the team is doing their part, he calls out the students...and he's right, they do need called out.
For a long time we've excused the crap attendance because we've had a crap team on the floor. This is without a doubt the best BG team since '02. To not support them is just pathetic. But hey, I can't make people come out, so for now my family has enjoyed this season more than any other in quite some time.

Re: 2 sellouts in a row
I won our season tickets in a silent auction last year; they were for the General Admission section. At the game last night, my wife turned to me and said, "This is fun! We need to get tickets again next year." She's a Toledo Alum but a current BGSU Grad student. We root for BG except one game a year.
It is fun, especially when we're winning. I told her that rather than bid on the GA tickets in the silent auction for next year, I may just shell out the cash and get us some reserved seats. Those two tickets that were donated by the athletic department for that auction are netting them two new season ticket holders for next year.

Several of us, myself included, thought that winning would bring the students/community out in droves. Not happening.......... on weeknights as the last two
Tuesdays have been very poorly attended. No Saturday game left and the Friday Kent game is to be televised so it looks doubtful we will see the Shroh packed again this year, maybe it will take years to see back to back sold out games again.

Re: 2 sellouts in a row
The good news from last night is that attendance was 2,225, which is 300 more than last Tuesday against Akron and about 800 more than 2 weeks ago against CMU. That's the highest Tuesday MAC attendance of this season, and the most here on a Tuesday night since February 23, 2016 in a win against Ohio.

I thought the stadium looked a little more full. It's too bad we couldn't pull off the W. I'm looking forward to a rocking house on Friday...AND A W!mbenecke wrote:The good news from last night is that attendance was 2,225, which is 300 more than last Tuesday against Akron and about 800 more than 2 weeks ago against CMU. I'll be busy setting up for hockey on Friday night so I won't be able to make the Kent game, but I'm hoping that people coming from out of town choose to go to BOTH games that night, with basketball at 6 and hockey at 8. Two very good BG teams competing on the same night within a block of each other - let's show up and show out!
