Re: 2019 Schedule Release
Only two "money games"...one against a somewhat down Kansas State. I'll bet we win some of these games....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: 2019 Schedule Release
I like our chances to potentially win these games:
Morgan State
@ Kent State
vs. Central Michigan
vs. Akron
@ Miami
I also think this team could beat Toledo. UT feels like they're down, Candle has been kind of exposed as an overrated coach after Campbell's guys have left, and we're at home on a Saturday. Perfect storm, if you ask me.
Loeffler said the guys have October 12th circled on their calendar...

You forgot ND
I wonder when they will announce the homecoming date. It will be oct 12th or 19th. I'm in a band that is trying to schedule something one of those 2 weekends so I'm hoping to find out relatively soon

Re: 2019 Schedule Release
I've heard October 12th will be the date, but they're still debating it. I really hope that's not true, because then it is the same weekend as the Ice Breaker hockey tournament up in Toledo, which BG is hosting.able1 wrote:You forgot ND

Re: 2019 Schedule Release
Ok thanks. I even debated emailing someone at the ad, but figured that would be pointless. They'll announce it once they decide.
Re: 2019 Schedule Release
Homecoming is September 14th against Louisiana Tech.
Family Weekend is October 12th against Toledo.

Re: 2019 Schedule Release
That was completely unexpected. I graduated just after your parents and have made it back to homecoming every year but 1. I don't ever recall it being scheduled before the first weekend of October. I like that plan for the weather. It's messing with my head to have it that early in the season though lol
Re: 2019 Schedule Release
11/2 vs Akron will be the first Saturday home November game since ....
.. any guesses? I know off the top of my head.
First since ... 2012 vs Kent State. Yup, seven years ago was the last time we played a home game in November on a Saturday. The game decided the MAC East, it came down to the final seconds, and it had a great crowd on hand. The MAC office apparently didn't care to learn anything from this game.
In case it wasn't clear, I think midweek Maction is the worst thing to happen to MAC football maybe ever. We play games to a small national audience, show off an empty stadium, and alienate the alums who live anywhere outside of three hours away. Alums like myself, donors and boosters who fund the Falcon club and spread the imagery of the orange and brown all across the country and not just Ohio, are incapable of seeing the Falcons play live at the Doyt in the month where championships are won. Instead we watch an empty stadium, and it is the entire MAC that has to deal with this phenomenon. I can't think the last time a midweek game in any MAC game had a good crowd on hand.
Once this current ESPN contract is up, I propose the following changes:
- every team every year gets one home November Saturday game with ESPN3 / ESPNU coverage
- teams may opt to play one more Saturday home game without any kind of ESPN coverage and choose to not broadcast or seek another means of broadcast
That would allow for the MAC to sell out each team for two or three midweek games in November, and allow each team one Saturday televised home game and optionally a second, so football is played on Saturday when it should be played.

Love the 6 home games. That should be a must every year.

Re: 2019 Schedule Release
This is one of the best skeds we have had in a long time. Thursday night season openers at home are a blast. Take off half the day Thurs and Friday as well. The students usually come out in full force to party since it's the start to a long weekend ND, Kansas State, La Tech and Morgan St. I really like this non conf sked. La tech should have a good crowd in Mid Sept and no doubt our boys have 10/12 circled. Enough is enough.
This is a challenging yet not overwhelming schedule with winnable games. Wouldn't surprise me to see this team win 5-6 games. Who knows? Look what Meyer and Blackney did in their first years. It def can happen. There is solid talent in the program and now we have coaches who have been there before and, by most accounts, know what the hell they're doing.
Cautiously optimistic....190 days til kickoff. Time to get back to what we should be doing every year. Contending for the MAC title.

Love the Thursday night home openers!!

Re: 2019 Schedule Release
The 2009 Troy State and 2013 Tulsa were awesome Thursday night home openers. Probably others I'm forgetting.
Re: 2019 Schedule Release
Just in looking at the athletic department's website, we also opened on a Thursday night in 2003 against Eastern Kentucky (W, 63-13) and in 2002 against Tennessee Tech (W, 41-7).Beaker wrote:The 2009 Troy State and 2013 Tulsa were awesome Thursday night home openers. Probably others I'm forgetting.
So to combine that with the Tulsa (W, 34-7) and Troy (W, 31-14) games, we're undefeated in season opening Thursday night games since at least 1999.
Let's stay that way this year, eh?
