vs. Kent State (3/1)

Post by mbenecke »

Friday night in the Stroh Center sees our BG men's basketball team taking on Kent State (20-8, 9-6 MAC) at 6:00pm. If you are able to attend, I highly suggest you do so - this is a massive game, and it's one that has huge tournament playoff implications. In fact, if you make it to this game tonight, consider heading over to hockey afterwards, as they have an important series of their own starting at 8:07pm. If you can't make it, the game is available on national TV on CBS Sports Network and for discussion right here on this board.

With a win in this game, BG would officially clinch a first-round bye straight to Cleveland. Currently sitting in 2nd place in the MAC, BG needs to win this game to keep the pace for the regular season MAC championship and the #1 overall seed in the MAC tournament. It's possible, but we're gonna need some help. First thing's first, though - have to control what we can control and win some ballgames.

We have to get the job done, getting to win #20 overall and win #12 in MAC play. It's time to get back on track.

Go Falcons!

Simply must win this game. @Akron and @Buffalo are going to be VERY tough games. THis is our chance to get this season back on the right track. It's home. It's senior night. It's beheading night.

Show up and play some GD defense. And win one for my birthday, please!

Nice win for bracket positioning. Hopefully the tournament bracket will be friendly for us.

OVER ACHIEVERS! That’s the best compliment a team can get. The team has given us a product to be proud of this season.

I wish this board would light up for winning threads as much as it does every time there’s a setback. That’s truly my biggest disappointment this season. I guess it’s what we are as a fan base.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Missed the game other than listening the last 15 or so. Foul shots almost lost the game for us? Did we play any better than we have been?

This game was kind of a microcosm of the entire season. There were a couple stretches where we played really well, but the end of the first half and start of the second were pretty bad. Rebounding was especially awful.

We had a lot of boneheaded fouls and turnovers. Not starting really seemed too throw Dylan off, 2 bad fouls early then never got into a rhythm.

Overall though Lillard did some nice things. Turner played well. Uju, Sierra, Wiggins, and Laster all had some good moments. We definitely payed better defense than we have the past couple games.

It was one of those games where we just found a way to win, even if it wasn't pretty a lot of the times... And man that ft shooting down the stretch Kiellie KSU in it longer than they should have been.

Most importantly though the team has officially accomplished something meaningful! They're in to Cleveland and will get there with a couple extra days rest. The goal for the regular season is accomplished, although if they could find a way to get the#1 spot that would be great, they'd need help. I'd really like to sweep Akron, but I'm reality I'm focused on Cleveland now.

One thing I was thinking about tonight in the rotation for the tournament is the guards. Laster is definitely or best facilitator and it's intriguing to see what it would look like with him out there with Frye and Turner. Couldn't do it to much because they'd get winded but it is intriguing to me.

What was our lineup at the end of the game? I think typically it's been Frye-Turner-Lillard-Plowden-Wiggins? Or is it Laster-Frye-Turner-Lillard-Wiggins?

Frye picked up his 4th foul with a few minutes left and never returned. Down the stretch I think it was laster-turner-lillard-plowden-wiggins

I only followed on my phone while I was getting set up at the Ice Arena, but that's a quality win right there. I'm happy to see this team sweep Kent State (for the first time since 1997) and get to Cleveland with an automatic bye. Now, time to finish strong and head to the Q with some momentum.

Man, does Kent have exceptional guards! Add an Antonio Gates in the middle and they would be headed to the Elite-8 again.

I thought fields and Turner did an OUTSTANDING job guarding those two. Held them to a combined 11-35 shooting. Walker had 26 points but took TWENTY EIGHT shots to get there.

Great win, cannot do worse than the 3 seed now since we beat CMU twice. We get the 2 if we win one of our last 2 and toledo loses at least one, and they are at CMU today.

Turner clearly had walker frustrated with how hard he had to work for those points. He was so frustrated that he pulled up for a 30' three on the last meaningful possession KSU had. Steph curry he is not.
