I'm not rising to Hammb's defense (he can easily do that himself) but you have to use a bit of perspective here. I've been following BG basketball for 47 years and have yet to be able to root for them in an NCAA tournament. Think about that...and my love for BG basketball probably isn't as deeply tethered as Hammb's is, because he grew up going to games and still goes (I only lived in BG during my time in school). So if my frustration (and yes, cynicism) is deeply ingrained by now...imagine how his is, and others with similarly long tenures without seeing even one truly outstanding season.Antimob wrote:Dear God...when they win it doesn't mean anything but if any of those games had been losses you'd be the first one on the board ripping them. If they win it's supposed to be meaningless but if they lose they get criticized.hammb wrote: The thing is, most of those accomplishments mean jack.
BG quite literally cannot win among a certain segment of the fan base.
This team still has a chance to do something truly special, but given the decades of "PTSD" some of us have when it comes to the basketball program, it's hard to be optimistic moving forward. We've seen them tuck their tails and lose to much lesser teams too often. I dearly want them to prove everyone wrong (including a skeptical me) and win this tournament to punch their ticket...and end this horrid streak.
