Seeding

Post by Matty B »

Feels good to legitimately be able to look ahead to Cleveland, doesnt it??

Looking at our seeding, we can't do worse than the 3. All we need to stay in the 2 is to win at least 1 of these two tough road games, and UT needs to lose at least 1 more (@CMU, home for EMU, WMU). On the off chance Ohio beats Buffalo Tuesday and we beat Akron, we would then play Buffalo for the 1 seed.

So the good news is that no matter what, we are on the Non-Buffalo side of the bracket. In my opinion, getting at least the 2 would be huge. From what I have seen, the clear top 6 are UB,BG,UT,CMU, KSU and Akron, then a pretty stiff drop after that. Assuming this group takes the top 6 seeds, the two seed would avoid all of those teams until the semis.

In other words, we are all CMU fans today - not that we wouldn't be rooting against UT anyway

It should be an interesting week. We could very well drop our last two with two tough road games. Toledo has a gimme with WMU at home but could definitely drop two as well with CMU and EMU. I predict we win at Akron, lose at Buffalo and CMU beats UT today giving us the 2 seed.

The 2 seed would be most excellent. For some reason I was thinking the division winners were guaranteed the #1& #2 seeds

Ohio went into Akron this afternoon and dismantled the Zips, 73-49. Don't know if that's good or bad for us Tuesday night? 8-[

That's nuts! Well, now we're gonna get a pissed off, hungry Akron team - hope we're ready for a fight on Tuesday night.

Seriously. What's the point of even having divisions and division standings if they are seeding based on the entire league?

Potential Cleveland opponents:

We get the winner of the 6 vs 11 matchup.

If I understand the tie breakers correctly, if Central wins at Western today, Eastern is the 6. If central loses, CMU, EMU and Akron are all possibilities at the 6 depending on their outcomes.

Ohio will be the 11 unless they win at home vs Miami AND Ball State loses at home to Northern, in which case Ball State drops to the 11.

I wonder how bad we will lose.

We beat CMU twice, that's a good matchup for us since they try to score and don't much like to defend either. Traditionally EMU has given us fits with their zone, but this year we beat them pretty handily.

Akron and Ohio aren't very good, but both beat us recently. I really don't want Akron, they play defense, and even though their offense is terrible we can't seem to stop it. Ball State we pretty much had beaten until we let them completely back into it in the final couple minutes with horrible inbounds plays, fouls, etc.

We can beat any of those teams if we show up to play. Akron would be the worst matchup, IMO.

Yeah we looked baffled at what they were trying to do on offense? "Why do you keep trying to attack the basket?" "Why do you keep trying to stop us when we try to attack the basket?"

I think eastern is our best matchup. If anything it will get us back in the habit of moving the ball around, which we did really well when we played them in January, plus they have "traditional" bigs which Wiggins tends to match up better against.

No Akron for us. Whew. Kent wins a thriller.

Side note: John Floyd officiated this one. Great no call late with a loose ball scrum right in front of him.

Looks like we get Eastern vs Ball State winner. Could not ask for a better draw IMO.
