Hard to question our staff on recruiting jucos because Laster and Sierra are absolutely successes but this guy has barely played and not done much when he has played. Maybe it's someone else they are looking at.Globetrotter wrote:A guy we are interested in, and seems like highly interested in, will I think be playing here coming up #11.

Tracked it down. They lost in the opening game of the state tourney but he is a finalist for the Michigan MR Basketball.Globetrotter wrote:I'm not having much luck seeing how Chandler Turner is doing at Renisciance. Flipper you know where to look for these. Any ideas?

Renaissance finished 15-5 playing a tough schedule. Did lose in first round but drew 23-2 U of D Jesuit which is a definite threat to win it all.Globetrotter wrote:Tracked it down. David Briggs had a great article about a guy from NWO who doesn't have any offers yet

He has the size and looks like he has a good bball iq. Not sure about overall athleticism.

Here's his highlights. He's definitely very good, big, can shoot, handle it, I would say he's athletic but not very fast. It's crazy that he has no D2 offers though. Maybe they can bring him in as a PWO like the kid from BGHS.

Doesn't look athletic enough to be a PG. Seems a little stiff too. Looks like he could be a quality depth guy at SG/SF though. We have a schollie...why not take a shot?

Re: 2019-2020 Recruiting
I haven't watched the video, nor did I go to a Sylvania game this year.
But I can say, unequivocally, I would 10x over rather see us use our final scholarship on a marginal D1/D2 prospect than let it go unused and granted to a walk on every season. Sounds like the kid can play and isn't getting D2 offers because they all think he'll go D1, and the D1 stuff just hasn't come yet. Typically guys who star in the NLL can come to the MAC and, at the very least, contribute. Almanson, Orr, Fox, and Wiggins show that.

I agree unless they actually fill all the scholarships next year. with their two current commits, they have two spots left. Obviously, guys could transfer. The four guys they currently have offers out to are extremely gettable (no big time offers).

Romeo Weems (DePaul) is Mr Basketball in Michigan. Chandler Turner finished 3rd

Re: 2019-2020 Recruiting
Weems is a borderline 5-star recruit so not surprising. Finishing 3rd in Michigan is nothing to sneeze at. Hoping there isn't any turnover aside from those graduating because there's going to be a lot of talent on the team next season.Flipper wrote:Romeo Weems (DePaul) is Mr Basketball in Michigan. i am all for offering the Sylvania kid. Any time you can build a good rapport with local coaches is key. Next time a solid player comes through that school the coach can point to how BG treated this kid

Don't want to get too into next year but we have an exciting offer from yesterday, Luke Lachey from Grandview in Cbus. His brother is on the football team and Luke is a very good Tight End with an offer from Michigan State already. (and BGSU). So he is offered for both football and basketball here. Would be very fun to have a Tony Gonzalez, Julius Peppers type guy. Might not even need to give him a bball scholarship.

Re: 2019-2020 Recruiting
This guys is transferring from San Jose St. Looks like a complete california guy at HS, JC and then SJ State so might not be willing to play at BG but seems like he could fill out the roster nicely. On second look might not be able to play right away. Nix him. But I already wrote it....so....

Re: 2019-2020 Recruiting
Saw a tweet today about a senior out of Olentangy Liberty, Joey Thatcher. Currently leads the state in 3pt FG% with 56%. Listed online as 5'9 140 but not sure when that was updated. Wouldn't be a bad PWO offer if can develop defensively or pass...Globe you know anything about him?

Here is a random not well thought out idea.Globetrotter wrote:Don't want to get too into next year but we have an exciting offer from yesterday, Luke Lachey from Grandview in Cbus. I've often thought BG could offer and possibly get 4*/5* guys if they allow them to play multiple sports. Most P5 schools would not allow that (I'm guessing that's true). The trick is getting them to prioritize one sport over another, for example this kid for Basketball and Football. In this case we'd want him to have FB prioritized over BB so the schollie would be for FB. I think it works better that way when the sports overlap. He can complete FB and then join BB part way into its season instead of the reverse (leaving FB early). He may gravitate to one or the other later but by then he is invested in the school and team.
Obviously there are other considerations such as differences in strength and conditioning and maybe teammate acceptance of someone joining them part way thru the season. But I think in some situations, those issues can be dealt with to make this work for special players. Kids like to win and if this player helps them win, then it can work.
In this case he already has a brother on the FB team so we have an in. Allowing him to play two sports might be enough to get him. Plus his parents might like this so they only need to go to one team's games.
I played against their dad in high school. 6-7 about 240 back in 1979 and went on to Ohio St and then to the Redskins as part of the "hogs". His team (St Henry) beat my team (Coldwater) for the first time my senior year. That was a tough one to live down. 7-6 on a disputed TD late in the game. I was a LB/Rover and he was OT. We stopped them just short of the goal line but as we were unpiling, the RB fell forward and the ball crossed the line. Ref raises his hands and we are screwed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
