Re: Spring Practice
We will have great depth at RB, we are fine at QB, and we should have depth at OL.
Everything else, I'm not sure we have a full two deep. This is 2010 all over again, and Loeffler will get all the patience afforded to Clawson.

Wow. Defense is going to be BAD. We have nothing on the d line.
Re: Spring Practice
More worrisome is LB. Only 6 LB on roster right now. There will have to be some position changes and true freshman starting I think.

Re: Spring Practice
9 DL, 6 LB not counting incoming freshmen. 3-3-5 defense would be something to try if bodies are a concern.

Re: Spring Practice
I can't wait for the season. Those of you that can make some practices, please leave updates! Yeah we have work to do but after meeting Coach Loeffler last weekend, this guy is ready to work his ass off. The team was at the women's win over Kent. Time for the ride back to the top...patience, of course. We hit rock bottom last season. GO FALCONS!!!

Re: Spring Practice
It's pretty clear that the offense is going to have to win some games because the defense probably isn't going to....

Re: Spring Practice
The new recruit from Erie Prep was being projected to play center. I would have to think the plans have changed on that one.
With the d-line situation the way it is it's going to be tough to expect anything big this year.

Re: Spring Practice
We've been successful in the past moving players from position to position, including some switching sides of the ball. AT, Sean O'Drobinak, Freddie Barnes, Jordan Roussos, and Austin Valdez to name a few. I have to wonder if there are any reserve OL, TE, or RB who can switch to the defensive front seven and make an impact. O'Drobinak was only a DT for one year. That year filled a crucial need in a bowl bound team.

Re: Spring Practice
Follow up. Two of Omar Jacobs' backups switched positions, three if you count AT. Pete Winovich, older brother of star Michigan DL Chase Winovich, played both sides of the ball after changing from QB. And Van Johnson was initially a QB but changed to DB his final years when Jacobs took over QB. So position changes have really been successful in the past. That might be the way to pad the defensive depth some.

Re: Spring Practice
I counted 7 TEs. I know we are going to be running more of a pro style offense but that when you have 9 DL and 6 LBs, 7 TEs is a lot.MarkL wrote:We've been successful in the past moving players from position to position, including some switching sides of the ball. Being from such a small school Loy had to have played defense in HS right? He's bigger than all of our LBs and some of our DL, good athlete, looks like a DE. Stick him there.

Re: Spring Practice
Loy is one of the two QB we have with game experience (one of three scholarship QB on the entire roster). He's staying at QB...

Re: Spring Practice
I can't think of a good reason for 7 TEs. That's a good place to look for some moves. And most TEs in HS also play DL. They can always come on to the field on offense occasionally for power sets.
