Man...I could post a joke on here right now that would give bacn, Mcmetz and Finallyin04 an absolute fit....

I've been a little abrasive of late with people on here and in real life...so maybe I'll hold off....

This one's for you, Grant. Apologies in advance to offended parties.

Schad is right of course that marijuana won't kill you by itself the way some other drugs can. But it is worth noting that marijuana smokers absorb 3 to 5 times as much tar and carbon monoxide as those who smoke regular cigarettes. It also increases blood pressure, causes damage to the pancreas and parts of the digestive system, etc. So while it won't kill you by itself, it certainly holds the door open to cancer, pancreatitis, heart disease...
Obviously, Schad needs to watch the seminal movie on marijuana use, "Reefer Madness". Or better yet, the episode of "Dragnet" where the hippie couple lets the baby drown in the bathtub because they were too high to care. I'm sure that would change his mind.

As far as cancer, heart disease and pancratitis, I'm sure you'll find alcohol is lots higher on the list of causes for those.

Unless things have changed in the last 26 years, I don't see smoking a little dope in college as such a bad thing.

Maybe we should remind Germain's friend to: JUST SAY NO!!

I'm amazed that they weren't heading to Taco Bell.

I find this thread pretty funny, it's pretty easy to determine who smokes or smoked around here :)

Unless he bought, rolled and lit it for his friend, I don't think you can hold him accountable for his friends actions.
Lets see, he was driving erratic in his car after midnight where his "friend" is smoking a blunt and knocking the ashes on the floor and in the ash tray.

When his "friend" pulls the stuff out, how about stopping the car and saying, "Excuse me but I am going to have to ask you get out. I am a member of the varisty basketball team and I can't risk even be associated with that kind of activity. Coach has asked me to be a leader on this team and its a crucial time of the season for us right now. I can't contribute to the team physically like a would like to at this point, so I am trying to make my contribution by leading by example for the younger players."

I know I sound like Ward Cleaver talking to Wally, but Germaine is the only one who put himself in this position.

Conspiracy!!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

Anyone else think the Blade's headline could have been re-worded to be a little less suggestive of a bigger issue?

"BGSU player cited for drug, traffic offenses"

Remove that one comma and it's a whole different ballgame. It's a VAST Toledo conspiracy!!!

Ok, I didn't read Eats, Shoots and Leaves but doesn't the headline also lead you to think there are multiple drug charges against Germaine rather than just the one of possession of marijuana?

HAHA!

I have the same reaction to this that I did yesterday. I don't really care. I think the drug laws are a joke, and if you start prosecuting everyone who smokes a little weed we'll have the courts tied up for years. If he was driving while impaired, that is a different matter.

That said, I do see where you're coming from by saying he broke a team rule. He is being looked to as a leader, so getting busted like this is not a good example to set. I wouldn't be surprised at all if coach Dakich removes him from the team permanently.

All I know is that when the rumor of a rumor hit yesterday I was expecting something a LOT worse than marijuana. I don't know what it is, but when I heard that it was pot my first reaction was to shrug my shoulders and say, "That's no worse than a speeding ticket".

I suppose he could go a step further and refuse to be seen with underage drinkers or people who fornicate outside of marriage.

Of course, Fitch would be alone a lot -- except for maybe Brother Jed.

Fitch won't be kicked off the team, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's suspended for the remainder of the season.

I'm not saying that I haven't tried it, because I'd be lying. However, I wasn't given $60k to play b-ball for the university. Who knows if it was Fitch or his friend. Fitch never should have put himself in that position. However, reading this thread did make me laugh thanks to all those "If he was your friend, would you help him?" commercials.

There is a pretty simple way to tell if it was his or his friend's. Submit to a drug test. Seems pretty obvious to me. If it was me, I'd want to do everything possible to prove that it wasn't mine. Drug test is simple. Negative means a smoked blunt ain't mine. It's as simple as that. Suspend him until the test results come back. If positive, rest of the year. If negative, punishment served for being in this position to begin with.

Just my thoughts.

It all comes down to common sense. We all screw up and some of us have to learn things the hard way. If this is his first offense, he doesn't play until next year, period. If it's a second offense he should be finished as a Falcon. I agree with Grant, a violation of team rules is worse that the police charges. Those are promises with your teammates--not to be tossed aside for any reason.

Rollo83 has a good point -- if this was a UT or Marshall student athlete this board would be brutal. Tough as it might be, we need to rethink our attitdues when it's an athlete from one of those institutions.
