If Duluth wins, BG faces them. If they lose, BG draws UMass.

Duluth wins. If I can read the minds of the committee, we'll be in Allentown PA with this bracket:
1 Minnesota Duluth
4 Bowling Green
2 Quinnipiac
3 Ohio State
1 Minnesota Duluth
4 Bowling Green
2 Quinnipiac
3 Ohio State

If that happens, it is very favorable.Critical Thinker wrote:Duluth wins. If I can read the minds of the committee, we'll be in Allentown PA with this bracket:

I just hope this discussion isn't premature. The host of that regional is the first team out, 0.034 back. I don't trust the committee until it's official.

From what I hear the committee can only place teams now. The rules changed to stop bullshit like swapping a team on the outside because they want to.

It's the NC$$. I still don't trust them enough to start celebrating.Despite the loss, Bowling Green appears to be in position to earn an at-large bid and snap a 29 year NCAA Tournament drought.

I believe it was Duluth got in instead of BG. It was the days of the "smoke filled room" stuff.mbenecke wrote:I'm curious, what happened in 83? DId someone get swapped for us?

Well, I'm glad we got them back in 84, then.
And I hope we get them again this weekend.

Re: At large bid: What needs to happen?
Many believe the 82-83 team was better than the 83-84 team. The snub in 82-83 is what motivated the 83-84 team. It wasn't as cut and dried back then as it is now.mbenecke wrote:Well, I'm glad we got them back in 84, then.

Pick up your copy of Cavallini from Kane and you'll learn what us old timers lived through.

I had been waiting long time to order that book, and now felt like as good a time as any.
Looking forward to reading it!

Stop by Mike Pikul's ice box seat and have him sign his chapter. While you're at it, have Marta Crow sign her chapter as well.mbenecke wrote:I had been waiting long time to order that book, and now felt like as good a time as any.

Re: At large bid: What needs to happen?
We were ranked #1 for most of the year, won the regular season CCHA title and lost to 2nd place, Ron Mason lead, Michigan St. in OT of the playoff championship game at Joe Louis in what was a SRO crowd and about 15,000 MSU fans. Brian Hills had a penalty shot in OT and failed to score.mbenecke wrote:I'm curious, what happened in 83? DId someone get swapped for us?
Then we got no bid to the NCAA tourney(8 teams then) and Duluth did. Duluth had packed their gear away and had to get it all back out and start practicing again.
The "old" WCHA had a real issue with the "upstart" CCHA at that time and basically from 1975 to 1983 did all they could to keep CCHA teams out of the NCAA's. It was a total joke.
That team was better than the 84 team everyplace but in goal, Mike David was not as good as Kruzich was the following year. The emergence of Kruzich after the Ohio State series in 83-84 made that team one that could win it all.
