Have to think that was a favor to UB. Probably upped the buyout for them.

I'd agree. It definitely helps Buffalo's cause, getting a bunch from Bama buying him out. That can't be cheap...

Oats, who recently signed a contract extension at Buffalo, was the Mid-American Conference coach of the year in 2018 and 2019 making $612,000. His new deal in Buffalo would have paid north of $800,000 but details of his Alabama deal are still not public. Avery Johnson made $3.062 million last season as the 19th highest-paid coach in the nation, according to USA Today. The AP reported a $750,000 buyout clause if he were to leave for a new job this year.

Best of luck to him. Bama basketball is kind of a coaching graveyard but maybe he can get it done. For us, I hope this has a similar effect to Dambrot leaving Akron and Buffalo returns to earth.

This is a huge opportunity for BG. We absolutely have the most coming back in what is looking like a potentially weak MAC East. Buffalo will have a new coach and have to completely rebuild their rotation. Kent has the most coming back from teams that did well last year but less than we do. Miami and Akron return almost everyone but obviously performed mediocre last season. OU will be starting from square one with a new coach and practically a new roster.

Yep. Welcome to expectations BG. From what I've seen of these guys on Twitter, I think they'll embrace the expectations, but next year will be completely different. This year we were the chip on your shoulder group. Next year we're returning by far the best player in the conference in Turner, along with some of the best depth. Replacing Lillard, Wiggins, and Uju will be tough but is doable.

Based on Oats leaving and all the talent graduating from the MAC I fully expect us to be the preseason MAC East favorite, perhaps even the entire conference.

Buffalo hired their assistant and looking at Twitter their fans are not happy. Taking 8 days and failing a national search only to hire someone internal after losing their whole recruiting class is not a good look. Understandable why outside hires wouldn't be interested after losing about half the team it turns into a major rebuild. I kind of equate their roster situation to when Dino left BG

Oates took their top recruit with him to Bama. Also Dino style.
