That hire wouldn’t excite me much if I was a Miami fan.

That's a serious drop off in salary, no? I realize we pay better than being unemployed, but you don't think he could do better elsewhere?TalonsUpPuckDown wrote:DAVE HAKSTOL

Coach Bergeron will probably be taking coach Schutte with him. Why not have coach Ty Eigner move into the head coach job. He knows all the current players and new recruits coming in. Sounds right to me.

Hakstol is still under contract with Philly and would need to get permission. I was just trying to start the discussion.

I like the idea of hiring Ty Eigner, It keeps the program going in the right direction. Another name Drew Evans tweeted that I thought was interesting was Dan Bylsma.

Re: Coaching Search
Wayne Wilson would be a popular hire to keep the program sustained for a few years. Has been pretty successful at RIT over the years
Re: Coaching Search
I wonder if we could get Dan Bylsma to come home for a few years, and keep Eigner (his teammate here at BG) on as Associate HC. He could take us on a few runs, and then when he is ready to bolt for the NHL in a couple of years, we could then have Eigner take over and run the show.
It gets us an alum as the head man - a guy with championship (Stanley Cup) experience - and it gives us some consistency in the program with Eigner staying on.

Other candidates that BGSUHockey.com listed to keep an eye on:
Dennis Williams (former BGSU HC, BGSU alumnus)
Wayne Wilson (RIT HC, former BGSU assistant, BGSU alumnus)
Brian Hills (RIT AHC, former BGSU assistant, BGSU alumnus)
Doug Schueller (Saint John's HC, BGSU alumnus)
Steve Miller (Ohio State AHC)
Peter Mannino (Miami AHC)
And then obviously both of the assistants, Barry Schutte and Ty Eigner.

Re: Coaching Search
When bgsuhockey.com did their big series of articles and interviews with the coaches a couple years ago Barry was meh on a head coaching job, Ty expressed more interest. I would absolutely be 100% in favor of Ty being our next head coach.
Possibly borne out by the tweet from bgsuhockey.com that just popped - berge spratt and schutte to Miami. No mention of Ty.

CHN just released an article. In it, they claim Schutte and Jimmy Spratt are going with Bergeron.Hockey John wrote:jghockey wrote:Coach Bergeron will probably be taking coach Schutte with him. Eigner is definitely top candidate if he's even interested in being a head coach. If he's not, I'd think it's Bylsma's job if he wants it. After that, it's just throwing names in the air and hoping one of them is chosen. The positions alumni hold gives Moose his own built in advisory/search committee. Guys whose job it is to maintain a short list of coaching candidates.
I'm definitely a fan of Dennis Williams returning. Mixed emotions on Hills and Wilson. Between their time here as assistants and their age, I'm not sure they'd be a good fit.

Re: Coaching Search
I would be shocked if Moose & Company haven't already been reaching out to a few possible candidates. We know he has had an on-going list of people he might want to interview if the job ever opened up; pretty much all AD's do this.jbakerifm wrote:When bgsuhockey.com did their big series of articles and interviews with the coaches a couple years ago Barry was meh on a head coaching job, Ty expressed more interest. It would be a total shock to me if any folks with BG connections who are or have been in NHL positions might consider taking the job. I think the odds of someone like that coming "home" are pretty remote. There are a number of college coaching prospects out there with BGSU connections that could do this job and do it well. And I am pretty sure they have talked to (or will) Ty about his interest.
Look for things to move pretty quickly. They won't want to lose any momentum from the NCAA bid, including possible recruits.

Re: Coaching Search
Eigner is the obvious choice. You run the risk of an extended reset if you bring in someone from outside the program. Bylsma is a sexy pick but I doubt he's interested given that Blashill received an extension with the Red Wings, he'll likely stay on as an assistant there. Maybe you give someone like Wilson an interview, but I think you need to keep the momentum going forward and Eigner gives you the best opportunity for that.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
