I was just informed by a player that BOTH Eigner AND Schutte are staying on as assistants, and that we are looking for someone to step in and keep this thing going. The department wants as much consistency as possible.

Staying at BG or staying on as assistants for Berge?

Staying on at BG.

If this is true and CHN has it wrong, this is a pretty big win for us. Though I find it odd that Barry stays and Jimmy leaves.

That tells me they already have the next coach. Not letting a head coach pick his own assistants (at least one) is a disaster waiting to happen.

I need to find some way to laugh about this or my despondent nature will have me driving my car with the BG license plate and Falcon Club stickers right off a cliff.

I suppose I'll feel better knowing who is coming in. Moose has done well with FB and WBB coaching searches; I have to have faith that he has this one covered as well.

I disagree. He's in nearly the same spot as berge was 9 years ago. Keeping him or both also means the whole recruiting pipeline won't bail.

I agree with Jbaker. Eigner would keep the program going without losing a bunch of recruits and starting over.

The idea is to upgrade the coaching and talent level...you want to build on success not embrace the first taste you have of it.

As the team improved, so did the level of talent. I do think that Ty can keep that going and continue to improve the team.

Hate to say it, but BG doesn't have the financial resources to attract a top level coach from outside the program. They're a mid-major school trying to support programs in the four major sports, so the resources just aren't there yet. If they can do what Miami did and create an endowment for scholarships. perhaps they can get to that point. Until then, they're going to have a selective pool of candidates to pick from.

I think Bylsma has to be on top of the list. NHL assistants make $150-$300K, so I suspect that we could make a pretty competitive offer. He has won the biggest prize in hockey as a coach, and that Stanley Cup ring on his finger will certainly make recruits pay attention.

I could see them offering the job to Ty, also; He or Barry certainly have earned a shot with the loyalty they’ve shown to this program. Additionally, there are a ton of former players who have demonstrated success as coaches. Wayne Wilson has built a pretty consistent program at RIT, where Brian Hills is an assistant. Ken Klee has a bunch of experience with USA Hockey, coaching both the US Women’s Team and the Men’s team; he’s currently coaching in the AHL. Nelson Emerson is an assistant coach for the Kings. I don’t think we have a shot at Todd Reirden as long as he is the head coach in D.C., but he might be an option for the next search.

Dennis Williams has been tossed around, too. He has a lot more experience as a head coach since he last had the reins here, and he’s put together some really solid records in the NAHL and the USHL. He might be a good hire if he can adjust back to the level of NCAA D1, but he’s not going to have the recruiting pull that some of the bigger names have. On the other hand, I was really impressed with the desire and work ethic he instilled in his year as interim here; the quality wasn’t there, but the fire was.

Emerson is the Director of Player Personnel at LA, used to be an assistant though.
