Ty Eigner
Ty Eigner has been named the eighth head coach of Bowling Green Falcon Hockey. I am very happy with the hire.

This seems like a good choice. He was part of a great success story in the rebirth of Falcon hockey. He's an alumnus who played here. Very nice.

I like this as well. While he will put his own stamp on the program, at this point continuity is important. Style of play won't change much which means the recruiting pipeline is filled with guys who know they can contribute. I want Ty to kick the bleep out of Miami State this coming season!
Hopefully he has a line on a couple of assistants and a director of operations. I hear Peter Mannino is looking for a gig.

It’s an ok hire. Better than Wilson, but you just hired an assistant from a team that has underachieved overall for about 4 seasons in a row. Be interested to see who they interviewed.

Good move. You've got recruits committed and Eigner is a big part of that. He loves BG and it promotes continuity within the program.

I think it's a decent hire. Good for current recruits coming in, and our connection to Minnesota is still there. I'm curious to see what his contract is, but I imagine it won't be more than what Berge made. I feel like there were some better coaches out there, but BG didn't want to pay to get them.

First off, there's a difference between WANTING to pay someone more...and not being able to. I believe what we saw here was the latter. BG does not have an endowed program like the Frat Hawks. It should, and I'm hoping someday it will; but we aren't there yet.BGhockeyfan94 wrote:I think it's a decent hire. Good for current recruits coming in, and our connection to Minnesota is still there. Second, this took a few days longer than I thought it would, but I am happy Moose was able to make a decision within a very reasonable time. I never believed it would take a month.
Lastly, continuity is fine...but the program absolutely needs to take that next step -- and I hope Ty can get us there. Anything short of league titles and some repeat NCAA appearances will be seen as under-achieving. I'm sure Ty would agree.
Good luck to Coach, especially in finding a good staff to help him achieve those goals.

Bylsma was strongly considered but my sources said the money gap was too big. He has a lucrative deal with the Wings.Falconwriter wrote:First off, there's a difference between WANTING to pay someone more...and not being able to. I believe what we saw here was the latter. Name one coach that we should have gone out and spent big money on. That was a lock winner, likely to come to BG, and was worth the money. This board and Twitter is wayyyy too hung up on the fact that Miami was willing to overpay for berge.BGhockeyfan94 wrote:I think it's a decent hire. I for one couldn't be happier. At the least you can expect the current level of success to continue. I actually think we might see a big improvement right away. It happens all the time in every sport - coach does ok, moves on. New coach puts their improvements in place and they get over the hump.

Dan Bylsma? I think Ron Rolston was worth a look. I'm not unhappy with the hire, and I'm hoping he can get us over the hump. I don't care that Miami overpaid for their coach, I want to see us competitively paying our coaching staff.jbakerifm wrote:Name one coach that we should have gone out and spent big money on. I'm interested to see who he hires for assistants. Maybe a Minnesota high school coach to keep that recruiting pipeline flowing?
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.
Re: Ty Eigner
Way back in 2013 I was hoping Mike Elko would get the football head coaching job to carry momentum forward from a slow and steady build. Well, this is the equivalent in hockey. I'm certainly good with it and I hope the hire works out.

We don't have the likely 500k a year it would take to get disco dan. Rolston would be great, if he was interested. Seems like he probably wasn't.BGhockeyfan94 wrote:Dan Bylsma? Wayne Wilson signed a 6 year extension at RIT. Not sure if he used us as leverage or not, but good for him.
