I actually have a bit of inside knowledge on this, with a friend working for the athletic department that was at a meeting for this last Tuesday.
Basically, there aren't many MAJOR changes coming, but there are some upgrade coming for the arena. For starters, the ice and boards are completely gone right now (or at least they were as of last Friday). They are replacing the boards completely, upgrading the cooling system for the ice, and replacing the glass with what they use in the pros, including having some small cutouts for photographers. Flip-flopping the placement of the benches is another thing being discussed, as the home team's bench may now be towards where the student section is. This means that fans that sit behind the home bench now will be able to sit behind what this past season was the visitor's bench. It's tough for me to describe over the computer, but basically the benches are flip flopping, and so are the fans that sit behind them. Another item that was discussed is the prospect of moving the student section to the other end to keep it next to the opposing bench. I am not sure about that one, you can give your own opinions, but I figured I would let you all know that. In addition to these changes, they are also considering another entrance to the ice for away team use at the end near the ProShop so that both teams don't enter/exit from the same spot.
Lots of interesting stuff going on. Excited for the future! Can't wait to see you all this fall! Go Falcons!

Re: Ice Arena Expansion?
are these upgrades part of the 2.7 million that the Board of Trustees passed? or are these the upgrades that Mr. Slater provided with his gift of 2 mil?
Re: Ice Arena Expansion?
The work being completed now is coming out of the University's general repair/improvement fund.

These are more detailed than the images that were posted last year. I wonder if these were the result of the focus meetings that were held last fall?

While surfing around after the presser (instead of working) I noticed there are a couple more renderings specifically related to what I'll call "premium upper deck seating." Also, we're apparently up 3-0 on Colgate though it looks like the players had to borrow RIT uniforms.

Not sure where you would put the video board if we did that. The ceiling isn't really high enough for a center scoreboard.jpfalcon09 wrote:https://t.co/9ElU700x9q

Video board will stay where it is at with a bar being on the backside of it to serve the closed in side overlooking the Ice. Likely to be use for Falcon Club with some special suite type seating.BGFan wrote:Not sure where you would put the video board if we did that. Re: Ice Arena Expansion?
The ice arena improvements thus far and in planning are creating a great environment for events. Being a season hockey ticket holder of 40 years, I am disappointed issues with handicapped seating area are not addressed. The handicapped seating area is a floor area between Section D and north end general admission for hockey games. I have had family and friends over the years sit in the handicapped area and it can get quite congested. The concerns are lack of space, poor line of sight, and safety. I have seen over 15 people attend a game sitting in handicapped area which was crowded. If you do not get a space along the glass, you have a limited view of the ice. The safety concerns are with emergency evacuation and flying pucks. People seated in north part of Section D and the northwest general admission cannot use the nearest exit ramp with a full handicapped section. I have seen many pucks land in the handicapped area. Handicapped seated people cannot see pucks arriving from the right until they are on top of them. I recommend end of ice seating for handicapped with easy access and sufficient space for wheelchairs, rollator chairs, and their companions. The mesh above the glass at the ends of the ice sheet would increase the safety of handicapped seating.
Falcon hockey season ticket holder since 1979-1980.
