Screw him for leaving our team and wanting to find a better situation for himself. I don't care that I know absolutely NOTHING about the reasons for his decision, and I don't care about those reasons. I don't even care that the entire coaching staff that recruited him to be here is now gone. He made a commitment, and dammit he owes it to all of us to do what is best for BG football. He can worry about his own life and future after we've used up his eligibility!Flipper wrote:The team philosophy he was recruited under is no longer here... If you aren't happy, go somewhere else.

Re: Transfer Watch
This transfer makes a lot of sense. Hargrove fit more of Jinks scheme...He is not a guy we are going to ground and pound between the tackles in the new system
Re: Transfer Watch
I will sum the transfer rule up very easy. If coaches can break a contract and change teams. They should have to sit a year as well. Coaches are getting paid and the rules should be the same across the board.
Stop complaining about players moving on. This is 2019 and the rules need to be equally or pay the players. Stop living in the past!!!!

Re: Transfer Watch
Quick thought on all these transfers. Toward the end of Jans' year as basketball HC we heard that a significant amount of the team was mulling a transfer because Jans and staff made them work far harder than Orr ever did. These players felt they did not sign for a coaching staff that required this much work IIRC, which certainly explained a lot.
I have to wonder if something similar is happening here. Loeffler inherited a roster that could not even do a proper stance and lineup. Obviously fundamentals were not a strength of the former training staff. Perhaps the guys are being worked far harder than ever before?
Just a thought. I claim no inside knowledge, I'm just putting some pieces together.

The transition from Gary Blackney to Urban Meyer offers another historical example.MarkL wrote:Quick thought on all these transfers. Some transfers are as suggested by the staff, advising them that they will not be playing here. If they don’t fit or can’t handle the new culture ( as opposed to the High school free for all setting It was under Jinks), you can go. This staff is doing it right.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Is Mike Jinks the worst hire in the history of BGSU sports?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Transfer Watch
I'd argue Orr was actually worse, but that's probably my hoops > football bias.Flipper wrote:Is Mike Jinks the worst hire in the history of BGSU sports?
Jinks was truly awful, but was so awful it made moving on and "ripping off the bandaid" doable.
Orr was horrible, but started with a decent season that got him an extra couple years. Then completely lulled the entire program to sleep to the point where we couldn't even get crowds to come out and see our brand new arena (or even properly send off our "venerable" arena). But he just kept winning enough games to not get canned, and keep putting up with the most boring ass basketball on the planet.
Either way, both were terrible in their own right.

Given that we relieved him of his duties more than two years before his contract was complete, I think the case can be made for yes.Flipper wrote:Is Mike Jinks the worst hire in the history of BGSU sports?
He seemed like a decent man. But the team was an absolute mess.

He's our Gene Cross... A guy so inept he almost destroyed a D1 program

Re: Transfer Watch
In the 25+ years I've been following BG athletics, I'd have to say yes, without a doubt. The shame of the matter is not only did that hire immediately produce 3 very crappy seasons, it's going to result in at least two more years of crap at minimum (this year for sure and next year as well) before we hopefully start making a turn, and there's no guarantee of that happening either. The hiring of Jinks was like a massive oil spill for BG. He might be gone but the mess he was responsible for creating is going to take at least a couple more years to clean up. The 2015 season (the last time we were good) feels like 20 years ago to me at this point.Flipper wrote:Is Mike Jinks the worst hire in the history of BGSU sports?
GO BG!!!
Re: Transfer Watch
Orr was a close runner-up to Jinks IMO. With Jinks we knew we sucked and there wasn't any hope to be had. With Orr we sucked but there sometimes seemed to be a glimmer of hope - but never amounted to anything. Jinks' short tenure was filled with utter embarrassment and disgust. Orr's way-too-long tenure was filled with stagnancy and apathy. Either way you look at it, both were detrimental to our programs. Both guys seemed like good people, but both were awful hires and terrible fits for their respective teams here at BG.hammb wrote:I'd argue Orr was actually worse, but that's probably my hoops > football bias.Flipper wrote:Is Mike Jinks the worst hire in the history of BGSU sports?

Re: Transfer Watch
Getting back to the topic of this thread, with the number of transfers nationally (both undergrad and grad transfers) at an all-time high right now, I'm surprised we have only taken/landed one transfer this year who is coming in to BG after yet another batch of players who have left again. Especially from a grad transfer standpoint. With the glaring holes and immediately needs in spots on our team, especially on defense (particularly the DL's and DB's), I'm thinking it boils down to one of two things. Either our staff isn't interested in bringing them in, or transfers aren't even interesting in coming to BG.

I might be wrong on this but I think its been pointed out that one difficulty in attracting good xfers is that we've already used up our allotted schollies for this year. I'm not sure I buy that since I thought our recruiting class had less than 25 and I thought that was the max allowable per year (unless your in the SEC). It makes it less attractive if all we can offer is a preferred walk on.
