Re: 2020 Verbals
Another verbal from Fortune Woods out of Hammond, IN (just outside of Chicago). He lists himself as an LB at 6'2" 195 lbs, but unless he bulks up, I'd guess he's a safety at the college level. I can't really find much info on him other than he has played a lot of WR and RB as well. BG was his first offer a week or so ago, so it's also hard to predict how hard the commitment is if he starts getting more attention this season.

Re: 2020 Verbals
The hallmark of the Clawson defenses that worked here was the 200-220 lb hybrids running around on the back seven/eight making plays

Definitely the highest rated QB since Morgan here.Tony4BG wrote:Tucker Melton - QB Central Phenix City, AL
Two more 3-stars committed today. Elijah Eberhardt, DB from the Cincy area, and Javonte Kinsey, a 6’4” WR out of Florida. 2020 is quickly turning into one of the best classes in recent memory.

This class's average recruit rating is the highest in at least 10 years, per 247.

Re: 2020 Verbals
In his first full recruiting class, Loeffler and staff have the verbal commitments from the top pro style QB in two different states. I've never heard of this happening. This is incredible. This staff knows how to recruit and based off their past experiences, they also know how to develop college level players. This first season will be tough but you can already see a vision for the program
And of course the standard recruiting caveat of everything can change between now and signing day.

And the caveat of getting them to stay. But all of this is absolutely worth getting excited about and I hope the improvement in recruiting is matched by the improvement on the field.

Re: 2020 Verbals
Just a few stats, because this interests me.
As of 6/17 at about 12:30pm...
1. We have 5 commits better than Toledo’s top 2020 commit.
2. Javonte Kinsey is the 7th best commit in school history. Melton is #9. Eberhardt is #15. Jay Burns is #21. Keller is #25. So we have 5 of the 25 best recruits in school history coming in next year.
3. Meanwhile, #9 Cameron Stage, #20 Karl Brooks, and #23 Cedric Mitchell are all already on the roster, so that means we will hopefully have 8 of our 25 highest rated commits ever on the roster next year.
4. P5 Teams with a lower ranked recruiting class than BG right now: Arizona State, Iowa State, Colorado, Washington, USC, Virginia, West Virginia, Duke, Indiana, Oregon State, Purdue, Baylor, Michigan State, Rutgers, Nebraska, Washington State, Syracuse, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Arizona, Texas Tech, and Utah
Lots of ways this hot start has been impressive. Obviously, with the way recruiting is, not everything will stay the same. But when you look at how things are right now, there's a lot to get excited about.

Re: 2020 Verbals
A couple of points worth noting (I agree with everything you're saying btw...I'm super impressed): We're ahead of those P5 schools due to the number of commits, rather than the ratings. If it was by ratings average, BG would be much lower. Also of note: the ratings system is much different now, and probably more accurate. Some of the recruits that came in during the Meyer/Brandon/Clawson eras (and before) would dominate the top 25 highest rated commits had there been the widespread ratings access available. Last point: ESPN has Keller rated higher than Melton (opposite of 247), so I think that could end up being a hell of a QB battle in years to come. I love the odds that one of them will be a huge impact player in the MAC and beyond.mbenecke wrote:Just a few stats, because this interests me.

I'm really eager to see if the momentum keeps high in the coming 4-5 weeks. From what I have seen, it seems like everyone who might be close to committing has now committed (I just started a new job so I still have a TON of free time and have been pretty plugged in on which recruits are visiting, have offers, etc.), and I haven't seen much movement elsewhere. Would love to be surprised with a couple of big offensive or defensive linemen.

Re: 2020 Verbals
I'll admit I was a little concerned if this coaching staff could relate to today's average high school kid, glad those fears can mostly be put to rest.

I watched Melton's highlight video and saw him throwing bombs to a tall, super fast receiver and thought "man we should get that guy too." Then I looked him up. I don't think we're getting him. But it's still cool that we're nabbing the QB from the 7A Alabama State Champs.

Re: 2020 Verbals
Funnily enough, Melton was actually the backup on that squad - even though he threw for an impressive 9 touchdowns in spot duty. The starter last year is a 4-star LSU signee from this past spring, Peter Parrish.JohnFloyd4Life wrote:I watched Melton's highlight video and saw him throwing bombs to a tall, super fast receiver and thought "man we should get that guy too." It will be good for Melton to get starter reps this season. Looking forward to having the kid come here, because he sure looks talented.
