2019-2020 Schedule
2019-2020 Schedule
As previously reported, BG men's basketball will play in the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam next season, from November 22-25.
In addition, I just saw Jon Rothstein posted that BG and LSU will open the season next year in Baton Rouge. I like this match-up - we won't be the favorite by any means, but it will be a great challenge for us.
The schedule is beginning to take shape!

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
Nola.com has BG visiting LSU on November 8th with a $97,500 payday.
This year's schedule is already the best in over 10 years. I love the very early date with a Top 25 team and a shot to steal an early win...yes, a long shot, but I think it gives us a slightly better advantage than if the game was held in December.

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
I don't disagree that finding quality opponents before league play for a mid-major expected to be very competitive is tough to schedule. However, Buffalo came into last season as a pre-season Top 25 team (or close to it) and scheduled Marquette, Syracuse and West Virginia. Yes, all on the road, but they won 2 of 3. Optimum schedule would be 2 such games on the road and 1 at home or a neutral tournament that includes a Top 25 opponent.
As I've stated about our horrible schedule the last five + years is that the experience against top programs will prepare a team should they win the MACC.
I do like how this schedule is shaping up with potential tournament opponents and LSU. One more P5 would prepare the team for MAC play and if they should break the 51 year NCAA tournament streak...which they have the opportunity to do this season!

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
I've seen Oakland (at home) and I believe Cleveland State added. Schedule shaping up for a team ready to make a real run at the tourney. I was hoping Miami would be there but they released their schedule and that one will have to wait.

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
Add Hartford on Dec. 31
We should be getting down to just the Findley's, Madonna's and Norte Dame College(s) of the schedule soon, but it's shaping up as a decent non-conference slate. Would like to see one very good mid-major at home, ala Gonzaga, Belmont, Murray State, etc...
As an example of a strong mid-major program with a schedule to prep for the tourney: Wofford
They play at Missouri, Butler, North Carolina and Duke! Not sure they need both of the last two, but damn!

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
I do not think Gonzaga is considered a "mid major" by anyone, not really. It's a top tier program that is stuck in a mid major conference (primarily because of geography). Their recruiting and record, and scheduling outside of their conference, puts them in the elite category.

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
Gonzaga produced 2 very athletic PFs in the 1st round of the NBA draft. They have a few others in the NBA. Gonzaga is well outside of mid major territory.
I don't know what their basketball budget is, or how sustainable their high major status would be if disaster struck (such as a poor coach hiring choice or a recruiting scandal).

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
And with what could only be called BG Basketball scheduling at its finest, the game against Jacksonville is in Miami, as a neutral site, but is considered a home game...for BG.
I look forward to that explanation. I hope there's a good reason for that.
