Certainly. And I really have no idea exactly what sort of offense we're going to try to build here either. Didn't watch much, if any, of BC recently to know Leoffler's preferences. The Saints certainly are creative in their creation of mismatches (using Kamara extensively now, relying on Jimmy Graham previously).

I just always get a nervous tick when I hear rumblings of an offense being too complex for players. Watched way too many "Genius" OCs take over NFL teams and try to implement their system rather than trying to make things easy and work for their players.

Even if, as a coach, you think you have the greatest system in football history it has to be taylored to the players you've got on your roster RIGHT NOW, or you're all doomed to failure.

You certainly wonder given the criticisms of other fan bases of Loeffler (to be taken with a grain of salt) regarding his offense at previous stops if there isn't a little bit of truth to the playbook being complicated. Watching the scrimmage, I think the issue is primarily the different formations and remembering how and where to line up. There were several instances where the team went no huddle and the coaches had to intervene to get some players to get set in the correct position. Good news is there's two and a half weeks left to get those issues corrected.

Watch this. A TRUE freshman WR has the offense down. Everybody blames the coaches, the lack of leather seats, blah blah...

Air raid offenses are meant to be called fast and so the play calling is simplified. A recent Texas Tech QB, maybe Shimonek, once described how plays are called. It took just a couple words to call a four wide set with a receiver slant.
I'm going to assume Loeffler's offense is more complicated. He also said we will be using tempo. So I have to think there will be some degree of simplification.

Some observations:

1) These players are being coached up HARD. The intensity level is off the charts and Loeffler is leading the way. Corrections are being made immediately and right on the spot. It's easily the most intense practice atmosphere since Urban Meyer, who coincidentally spoke to the team prior to the practice.

2) The QB scramble/run game looks to be big either by design or a product of the QB running away from pressure due to breakdowns on the line. The line was challenged all through the scrimmage. They are talented but young and need to develop to make something out of this year. At one point Loy broke free and they blew the play dead much to his dislike. "Let them tackle my ass!" he yelled. He is a competitor and will be a factor in moving the ball this year either as the starting QB or in another role. Him and McDonald mixed with the 1's with Wade getting the rest of the reps.

3) Austin Dorris was the most vocal player on the offensive side and looks to have assumed a leadership role already.

4) The subject of Doege was brought up and it appears his father played the key role in engineering his exit due to the fact Loeffler didn't retain his older brother on the coaching staff.

5) Clair is the most talented player on offense and will clearly be our biggest weapon (with Morris second) and they are wisely limiting his live reps. I only saw him hit the ground once and thankfully he popped back up. He is indispensable to the offense.

My inclination was the QB job would be Wade's to lose. I'm surprised to hear him not getting snaps with the ones.

From what Loeffler has said...I don't think you can read much into the day to day distribution of QB reps. They're splitting them equally...just not in the same day. So Lot might get the bulk of his reps with the twos today then the one's tomorrow.

Agree. 2-3 starting lineman and 2 WR were out Saturday, so that didn’t help the qb’s. That said, We in trouble at QB if mcDonald doesn’t get waiver.

I wouldn't bet on McDonald getting his waiver. Wade and Loy looked serviceable on Saturday. Wade made a nice deep throw for about 40 yards and Loy for the most part was accurate, and both guys can run. Each QB I believe threw an INT and had some poor reads. If I had a guess, I think Wade gets the job but I wouldn't be shocked if the Morgan State game is still an audition for those two if McDonald doesn't get his waiver.

Agree that they are serviceable... we don’t have a choice. I think the knock is they both get happy feet and check down way too quick.... that won’t change. Mcdonald gets waiver, we can surprise some people. I am still holding out he gets it. Ideal would be Mcdonald ; then bring in running righty and running lefty for packages.

That is a very accurate description of what I saw Saturday. This team is gonna win games sooner than later. I love the intensity and enthusiasm and the kids are practicing hard. No questions these coaches are pushing them to be the best they can and won't tolerate anyone taking plays off. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo freakin happy we have this staff in here. Coach Loeffler knows what it takes to build a championship team AND program. You don't work for guys like Carr, Meyer, Beamer and others if you're a stiff. Get ready for takeoff cuz it won't be long...

There's an open practice at the Doyt this Saturday from 8:30am to 10:40am. Seating in Sections 14L and 16L. Loeffler and some players will be signing posters following.

The season starts in two weeks and there is still no word about McDonald's waiver. This is ridiculous. The coaches have gameplans to develop and they don't know for certain how many QBs are available. If the transfer portal is going to be used as much in the future as this year, the NCAA absolutely has to streamline the waiver process.

If you played less than four games the year before...that should be an automatic waiver

Very crazy time it has been taking NCAA to decide on waivers. Usually seems to take about 3 months. Saw QB that transferred from Louisville to FSU just had his approved and he announced transfer to FSU end of December.
