They've slammed the brakes on the process for sure. Nick P said BG expects a decision "at some point soon". I still think the chances are slim he gets approved.Tony4BG wrote:Very crazy time it has been taking NCAA to decide on waivers. Usually seems to take about 3 months. Saw QB that transferred from Louisville to FSU just had his approved and he announced transfer to FSU end of December.

If it is me wearing the coaching hat and come game one there is no waiver for McDonald and he is the best, I play him. I stick it to the NCAA for being so slow. What will they do, negate wins? I would play some chicken with them and get the NCAA to blink, or else accept that they are the slow red tape-ridden bad guy.

Sorry but this is pretty bad take.MarkL wrote:If it is me wearing the coaching hat and come game one there is no waiver for McDonald and he is the best, I play him. What can the NCAA do? Plenty more than negate wins, especially if there's willful intent. The last thing BGSU needs is scholarship reductions or financial penalties...not to mention the terrible optics and potential impact on recruiting.

That's why I'm not a coach.

Dannie Rogers, BCSN Sports just tweeted a video segment saying BG might know Monday about McDonald waiver.

We've never had a major NCAA infraction here, and I'd hate to ever see one. But given how weak this team may be this season....MarkL wrote:What will they do, negate wins?

Loeffler still dealing with inconsistencies with effort and focus in practice. Going to take a big overhaul of the roster to get this straightened out.

That article also sounded like coach speak to motivate his guys. So read into it some, he inherited a country club and is turning it into a football team, but also don't read into it too much.

Re: Fall Practice
Given the speed with which Fields and Martell transfers were approved, I would anticipate a lawsuit from a player who gets his request denied citing the NCAA's "arbitrary and capricious" application of the rules.

BCSN story from last night says BG expects to hear about McDonald on Monday.

Re: Fall Practice
Other BC QB that transferred to Rutgers won his appeal and will be eligible this season. Looking good for McDonald now.
Re: Fall Practice
I appreciate the optimism but that appeal process is looking like a very slow coin toss. And if you are a rich program like OSU or Miami, you get to provide your own two-headed coin.

Re: Fall Practice
I wonder how aggressive these schools are in pursuing a decision. My guess is that they're far more aggressive than schools like BG, because they have the resources to push. Is it fair? No, but I'd bet that's the real difference.MarkL wrote:I appreciate the optimism but that appeal process is looking like a very slow coin toss. If he gets the okay now, you have to wonder how long it will take him to get up to speed; and how long it will take before he is able to contribute anything of substance.
If I were King of the college football world, I'd decree that every player gets one transfer without question and immediate eligibility -- beyond a graduate transfer. Those I'd leave alone so players could theoretically have two transfers in their careers without waiting. If it's not a grad transfer or your one option with no wait, you have to sit a year. No exceptions. I think this would add some order to the whole thing and make it less capricious.

If McDonald gets his waiver approved, he is QB1. He has been getting a lot of one reps during camp.
Re: Fall Practice
Loeffler is putting yellow shirts on guys who aren't playing with full effort and making it a big deal when they've earned losing the yellow shirt. He says ideally he won't have to do these kinds of gimmicks to motivate going forward but the effort has not been consistent so far.
Sounds like he's working these guys far harder than they are uses to.
