Jinks' press conferences were ... not good. Ask him a football question and the most likely answers were "I need to look at the film and get back to you" or "we need to put players in the best position to win games". It was not informative or insightful, or at least not the way press conferences were supposed to be. Babers' press conferences were ... not much better. Yeah they were sometimes entertaining. But especially his first year, the biggest takeaway was that we all have to wait for year two for the offense to really work. Babers was a great coach, his teams were fun to watch, but his press conferences were not insightful. And I've heard people describe him as arrogant and insincere. Sometimes ... yeah he came off that way in weekly press conferences.
Back when I had time to write weekly previews, I actually did a lot of research and that generally involved listening to opposing coach press conferences. Some good ones that I still remember: Rod Carrey, Lance Leipold, Mike Norvell. And I'm going to have to hit myself for saying this one: Matt Campbell. Sometimes comparing the other coach's press talks to ours was insightful in it's own right.
So yeah ... it is refreshing to hear actual football talk at press conferences. It's been a long while.
