Hockey and Spring Game band

Post by SaxyIrishTenor »

Per the request of a few people, I just sent the following email to Dr. H. If you would be willing to do something to help, please let me know, and try to show her your interest. Subtly, of course. :)

Hi. Hope your weenesday is going well. I have been asked to bring
two possible A-band/FMB moments up in hopes that we can get something
together for them.

First of all, the hockey team has gotten home ice for the first round
of the tourament for the first time in 10 years. This HUGE for the
hockey team. The tournament wil be in BG from March 11-13. I know
this is over break and it may be hard for us to get students together,
but several alumni have already volunteered to play. I'd be willing
to contact Jeff and Amy in order to help get alumni together, plus if
we invite the FMB members as well, we might be able to make a band of
it. Several alumni have said it would be a shame if we weren't able
to get at least something together.

Secondly, the football team has announced that their annual Spring
Game will be on April 16 at noon in the Doyt. How fun would it be to
get a pep band together for this? Plus it will help a few of us get
over our withdrawal. Again, I'd be willing to help coordinate.

Let me know.

I would be willing to play on Saturday, and if the game is needed, Sunday of the Hockey play offs. I have a previous commitment on Friday, so that isn't possible for me. I'm not interested in playing at the spring game.

Erica, you probably should've talked to Carlson before sending that email, because he sent a similar email to her already in regards to the hockey playoff game, and it did not turn out so well. I have to say though, it is way too short a notice to get anything decent together for the hockey game. The football thing may be a different story, but who knows?

I have to disagree with you jlozer8. If it were done now there is still 10 days before the puck drops. I am willing to play all three nights if necessary. I don't understand how you can support the team all season and then drop them on their butts after such a hard fought and successful season. Oh, and by "you" I mean the athletic band program and no one specifically. I don't want to offend anyone  I guess personally I feel that if the program isn't going to support any of your team from start to finish then don't even start. We can get the organ working again in the Ice Arena. Just my thoughts.

I heard the organ at the home MSU game. I about went nutz when it started playing and everyone around me was trying to figure out why. Too me, organs are as much a part of hockey as goalies and octopus

It was a recording. The old organ is MIA.

I hope you can make something happen. Having a band with the great sound you all make really adds to the atmosphere for fans and players. I know the coaches love it, too.
Two of our greatest players ever are coming, and we can't even give them a proper A-Z-Z? It's an outrage!

Tell that to Doc H. If you happened to witness Carlson's attempt at getting an athletic band to play, you would understand. Don't be too hopeful. :)
I love band! Be good to your horn, it's been good to you hasn't it? ^_^

So maybe some of us Hockey fans need to call in and express this to Dr. Hayward. Like I said, don't start what you can't finish. And i know this is not the decision of any of the members so please don't take offence. But, if we make the NCAA tournament this year and the decision was made to drop the CCHA tournament then I don't want a band there for the NCAA. We have an amazing band program here at BGSU and should show it off anytime we can. Just my thoughts.

The reply I got:

Erica,

If the alumni band wants to put something together, that's certainly
fine, but I really can't do any more with our bands than what we
already have going. With the MAC tournament and spring break
happening all at the same time, we are stretched thin. None of our
staff would be available for that either, so it would have to be
completely up to alumni. It's too bad all these things happen at
once--but we just can't handle everything.

She's got a point about us being busy; I just think there has got to be something we can do. Its not like its marching season.
It said nothing about the Spring Game.

So how do we get in contact with the alumni band powers that be and get this ball rolling?

Jeff Rader is the guy who handles all that, but BBQueen said he broke his leg and is temporarily out of commission. I'll bet if you tried to contact him he might be able to direct us to someone who could get started though.
