Forgot momentum, forget confidence, forget compiling an undefeated record to give us a sniff at the Top 25 polls and national recognition, forget all of it. Just go for the money.

Shame on them.
Quit whining...you want to "sniff the top 25 and national recognition" ? Earn it on the field.

I want Top 25 recognition and want to follow the best pathway towards it as NIU, WMU, Toledo and BG have done. It does not involve playing a monster non-conference schedule.

You don't want Top 25 recognition, you want to turn BG into the Mud Hens of college football, a minor league stop-over point that temporarily allows athletes to showcase their talents for others.

If you can't compete...you don't really belong. You want to be a part of the Potemkin top 25

The year NIU went to the Orange Bowl (2012), and the year after where they were undefeated before losing to BG in the MAC title game (2013) they played multiple power 5 opponents

The year Western went undefeated and played in the Cotton Bowl (2016) they played multiple power 5 opponents

Since returning to being a top contender in the MAC Toledo has had multiple seasons where they played multiple power 5 opponents (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015)

The year BG got its most national recognition (2003) they played multiple power 5 opponents. The two recent years BG won they MAC (2013, 2015) they played multiple power 5 opponents.

It would seem BG is following the best pathway towards top 25 recognition as NIU, WMU, Toledo and BG have done in the past when it comes to scheduling

The NIU team in 2013 played Iowa and Purdue and in 2012 Iowa and Kansas. The WMU team in 2017 played Northwestern and Illinois. These are mid-to-bottom tier Power 5 teams. It's preferable to not play multiple Power 5 teams but when it does occur they are never the upper-tier Ohio State's, Notre Dame's and Michigan's of the college football universe.

The ranked Ball State team in 2008 played one P5 team (Indiana). The only year Toledo won the MAC since Amstutz they played a single Power 5 team. They haven't played multiple Power 5 teams in years and won't this year.

The polls recognize wins and record. Killing yourself in the non-conference portion of your schedule is counterproductive.

We could play the non-conference schedule our MBB has played the last five years and watch with excitement as the take on Findlay, Tiffin and IUPUI!

Great pickup! But man... 2024 will be brutal. @ Penn State, @ Texas A&M, and @ Maryland, all likely in the first month of the season? At least we start with Fordham.

The A&M game is the same date as what the Maryland game was scheduled for, so we can assume either the Maryland game will be moved to a different year, or the contract was terminated.

And Maryland game was originally scheduled for this season. Maryland probably looking to buy it out.

Guessing we bought the Maryland game out. Part of a 2 for 1 series so we get no money for that game. Texas A&M probably paying more than the buy out costs us if we are getting $1mil.

I bet you that the total will be closer to $4 million. Many of these contracts are at about $1.3 or so now, and will undoubtedly be increasing.

Good additions, IMHO. I always like to see winnable home and homes, and programs like Marshall can occasionally add a lot to the schedule.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.
