That is exactly what I've been telling people. Don't judge Loeffler by this year. Anything this year is the fault of the previous coaching staff. We truly won't know exactly what we have with this staff until realistically 2021. This is Clawson rebuild all over again except starting at an even worse place.Falconwriter wrote:The price to be paid for cleaning out the stench of the past coaching staff. Better days are ahead.

Re: L A TECH
One thing we learned in 2016...it is much easier and quicker to destroy a program than it is to build one. It took Clawson until the 4th year to really see results. It happened quicker with Meyer, but he was a few in a generation caliber coach. Going to have to play the long game and stick with the current staff for a long while

My expectations have never been ridiculously high for this season, but I could still see multiple wins remaining. Kent State, Akron, and CMU are all on the table.
If we can get solid defense and consistent QB play, those are still winnable games this year.

Positives to take away from the game:
-Held a G5 team with “comparable” (G5) talent to just 21 points through 3 quarters
-committed just 5 penalties, so we’re becoming more disciplined
-held them to 130 yards rushing... no more 300 yard rushing games against this defense
-only 1 turnover
This team is starting to get back to the fundamentals of disciplined football. It’s going to take time, but I like the direction we’re headed. Let’s figure the offense out now, and we’ll be in solid shape moving forward.

You can find positive things, but that’s a bad team that just blew us out at home. They played really bad too. Not like we were the only ones who left points on the field. They could’ve easily scored 20 more points with better execution.

Re: L A TECH
They won because their QB was much better (and he's no All American either) and they had one or two guys on defense (notably Amik Robertson) who could make game changing plays. Wade seems to be regressing week to week...maybe it's time to let him watch a game from the sidelines while Loy starts
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: L A TECH
Precisely what I was thinking. I assumed Wade would need a game or two to knock off the rust and then he would be like the former starter at Boston College. Obviously that hasn't happened and it is hurting the team. On the one TD, the big pass to Morris was an overthrow and he had to jump to pull it in, on a screen pass no less. Luckily that didn't stop him from breaking loose. Otherwise, this could have been another shutout.Flipper wrote:Wade seems to be regressing week to week...maybe it's time to let him watch a game from the sidelines while Loy starts
Maybe it is time to shake things up a bit. Kent State next week would be a good opportunity for Loy to play.

Loeffler's Presser from last night. He makes some great points, and it speaks to where the program is at currently.

If Loy starts and plays well, I bet the rest of the MAC will be on notice.

Re: L A TECH
Loy isn't going to play. He's really a non-factor at this point unless Wade gets hurt. Loeffler is going to roll with the guy who at very least has experience running this offense, albeit his timing and accuracy are less than to be desired.

Re: L A TECH
If the coach is that set that he won’t consider a change then that does not bode well for the future
Re: L A TECH
He sounded like he was open to change in his postgame presser. He said Wade sometimes does what he's supposed to and there are others that his execution isn't where it should be. Maybe not explicitly stating that he's going to change QBs, but certainly admitting that all isn't well.gspointer wrote:If the coach is that set that he won’t consider a change then that does not bode well for the future
We have to remember, McDonald was the starter coming out of camp. So Wade is the backup playing in place of the starter... which means Loy is really the 3rd stringer. I don't know many fans clamoring for their 3rd stringer at other programs.

Or, perhaps, Loeffler has watched both of these young men practice for months now and has a sense of who ought to start based on his 20 years of experience coaching college quarterbacks.gspointer wrote:If the coach is that set that he won’t consider a change then that does not bode well for the future
This offense is tough to watch, but I don't think there are any easy answers here.

Re: L A TECH
Loy looked no different than Wade on the one play he came in for - indecisive and clueless for lack of a better term. I trust the coaches are playing the right QB given what they've seen in practice.Schadenfreude wrote:Or, perhaps, Loeffler has watched both of these young men practice for months now and has a sense of who ought to start based on his 20 years of experience coaching college quarterbacks.gspointer wrote:If the coach is that set that he won’t consider a change then that does not bode well for the future

Re: L A TECH
I'd replace easy with ANY. If you don't have the talent on the roster, you don't have the talent. I grew up in the area where Loy played his high school ball and he's a decent player, but his pedigree never screamed that he'd be a star in college. As noted, he's actually the third string QB on this roster, so why people would be expecting some great improvement to take place, I don't understand. My guess is he'll get plenty of playing time this season simply because BG will be out of so many games.Schadenfreude wrote:Or, perhaps, Loeffler has watched both of these young men practice for months now and has a sense of who ought to start based on his 20 years of experience coaching college quarterbacks.gspointer wrote:If the coach is that set that he won’t consider a change then that does not bode well for the future

It's hard to be patient when we want them to win so bad, but there really are no good solutions here.
Mid major programs like BG can only have consistently good programs if the people doing the hiring don't muck up a coaching hire. There are far more programs that do screw this up than do not.
