I suggested giving Loy a shot not because I think he would be way better. I see no evidence of that. No, I'm suggesting that to shake things up a bit. Maybe he makes some throws that Wade missed, maybe he misses some throws that Wade made. Maybe Wade would benefit from not taking too much of the offense all on himself so soon after assuming his playing career was done, to relax a bit. But as other have said, I don't see day to day in practice. I lack insight into the situation.Falconwriter wrote:As noted, he's actually the third string QB on this roster, so why people would be expecting some great improvement to take place, I don't understand.

I don't know...when the head coach spends part of his post game press conferences for two weeks running to point out how many points we missed by not seeing guys open downfield...it begs the question "when are you going to try an alternative?"
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

If Wade is going to keep playing then the staff needs to do a better job with the game plan or do a better job preparing Wade for the game.

The coaches have done plenty. It's up to the players to execute and be consistent.TommyG wrote:If Wade is going to keep playing then the staff needs to do a better job with the game plan or do a better job preparing Wade for the game.

Loeffler said this morning they had no plans of getting Loy into any games and Wade remains #1 on the depth chart.

I think a risk here would be of hurting Wade's confidence. If they are close in practice, but Loeffler still thinks Wade has more potential upside, then perhaps the right decision is to keep giving Wade chances and see if he can elevate his game.MarkL wrote: I suggested giving Loy a shot not because I think he would be way better. This is a tough situation, no question.

This is what buying out the old coach and hiring a new guy buys you.jpfalcon09 wrote:TommyG wrote:

I don’t care if McDonald won the job out of camp. He’s not eligible. The staff needs to find ways to get better production out of the QB position. That is their job.

Huh? It's not like they had a choice to get rid of Jinks when they did, unless you wanted even more years of embarrassing play, an even bigger roster turnover and a longer rebuild. The on-field stuff aside, think about what little we now know about what was happening behind the scenes with players not respecting coaches and not working out as directed. That's probably the tip of a very unpleasant iceberg.TommyG wrote:This is what buying out the old coach and hiring a new guy buys you.jpfalcon09 wrote:TommyG wrote:

As for the coaches, this isn't just about finding the right players who happen to be on a depleted roster right now -- it's about changing a poor culture in that locker room so the future roster will have players willing to work hard and be coached up, so success and winning become the standard, instead.

Please go listen to Loeffler's press conference from yesterday.TommyG wrote:This is what buying out the old coach and hiring a new guy buys you.jpfalcon09 wrote:TommyG wrote:

There are deep rooted issues within the program that extend far beyond the talent on the field. You have a large group of young men who are being pushed and challenged for the first time in their collegiate careers. Coach mentioned explicitly that the players assumed practices would get easier once camp ended. That's such a gigantic issue, it's not even funny.
To me, it seems like you have a large number of players who are just happy to be on the team and appreciate the free education. Doesn't sound like there's passion and love for the game. That translates to how you play.

I think Urban Meyer called them "bus riders and steak eaters".

In high school football we call them sandwich eaters. Might be some truth in the fact some players just happy for the free education. We won't know if that will change until coach's recruits make up the majority of the team.

This reminds me of Urbana’s 1st yr. many of you may recall the “barf barrels” along side the practice areas. To this day Urban still calls this his favorite team. Joy Utah, Fla or OSU...BGSU!
I can see Loeffler doing much of similar things... let’s hope he’ll be able to say similar things after this yr is thru.
This being said, I think Loy deserves some P T , if for no other reason to give us a different look to opponents.
