The only game they have a chance of winning is against Akron.MarkL wrote:I was about to write up a post regarding our odds in upcoming games and divide remaining MAC opponents into the upper and lower echelons of the MAC, the lower being CMU, Akron, Miami, and Buffalo.
And then I checked current scores. Buffalo is blowing Temple off the field. Same Temple team that beat Maryland last week. The schedule just got a bit harder.

So I’m confused...is the MAC still on notice or do we suck?MarkL wrote:I was about to write up a post regarding our odds in upcoming games and divide remaining MAC opponents into the upper and lower echelons of the MAC, the lower being CMU, Akron, Miami, and Buffalo.

Re: Kent State
It will be a long year. Loeffler inherited a complete mess and every week it seems he peels back another layer of the mess he received.
Players who max out on the bench at the same weight I use as a warmup.
Players who don't have the right work ethic in training and the class.
Players who would rather transfer than put in the effort.
Players who think training camp is hard but fall is easy.
It will be a total culture change. This is worse than what Clawson inherited in that regard. And it will take a long time.

Until the Jinks recruits are purged from the program, it'll be more of the same. Losing begets losing. You just hope it doesn't infect the new guys coming in.MarkL wrote:It will be a long year. The MAC has been put on notice. They need to notice it might be time to drop a level in football.
Bowling Green has had a lot of rock bottom moments since 2016, losing by 6 TD’s to Kent St is for sure in the Top 5. From Champions to the cellar with one hire. The Chris Kingston legacy.

Re: Kent State
This may very well be the worst Falcon team since Bowling Green moved up to Division I in 1962.
I do think this will get better over time. These coaches seem to know what they are doing. But this is a complete rebuild job. Neither Urban Meyer nor Dave Clawson had it anywhere near this bad.

Well sounds like we should check back in in 2022....so many hurdles to climb, we’ll be lucky to compete for the MAC East by then.

I was afraid to say this same thing, but after today I do believe this is a one win team, and will be in the record books as one of the worst ever in school history. Sadly, Loeffler's name will be on that record, even though this disaster had nothing to do with him. Just when I thought I couldn't loathe Kingston any more for screwing this program, I somehow find new depths for that emotion.Schadenfreude wrote:This may very well be the worst Falcon team since Bowling Green moved up to Division I in 1962.

Over 700 yards and 62 points to Kent. If this isn't rock bottom...
Re: Kent State
On the bright side, Miami lost to OSU by 71 points. We lost to them by 67 points in 2016. Progress?

Re: Kent State
I watched this game (I live in Cbus) and it was 5-0 midway in the first quarter (Miami leading). Then I watched as OSU very surgically disemboweled the Redhawks with one big play after another, both on offense and defense. It was not a case of them running up the score, as the starters were gone at the start of the second half. By the end of the game, everyone on that roster had played. Oh, and did I mention the game was ended 3 minutes early because of lightning? Miami fans hate their coach and want him gone (they are still remembering the glory days with Pig Ben R.), but I don't think they're that bad. There's talent there, and they can certainly beat anyone in the MAC. BG will likely lose by more than 45.MarkL wrote:On the bright side, Miami lost to OSU by 71 points. Re: Kent State
My God, we are even worse than I could have imagined. I had to leave the game early because I couldn’t stomach it any longer. Maybe it was the Kent State fans laughing at BG and heckling BG for how bad it was. I never thought I’d see the day Kent State was doing that, but today it happened. Or maybe it was the fact our defense made 10 yards look like 2 for them, or the fact our offense plays inside a bubble within arm’s reach of the line of scrimmages. Our defense was beyond shredded today. Pathetic. I saw a tweet that said Kent State's 750 yards of total offense is the most for any team in the country this year against an FBS team. That’s beyond embarrassing. I also saw the 62 points were 14 more than KSU has ever score vs BG - EVER. Embarrassing. I cannot stand the offense we are trying to run. We are absolutely no threat of doing anything downfield and teams know it. Teams are loading the box because of it, and when we try and run we struggle doing it, and when we pass we’re doing everything underneath. It seems like almost every pass attempt is within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, and most are way short of 10 yards at that. We also can’t kick PAT’s and FG’s, so yeah, we suck there too. This is the same train wreck from the last few years and dare I say, it might even be worse. We’re still years away from any sort of improvement, and there’s no guarantee of that happening either. Akron is looking like the only team we’ll have a shot at. If we’re giving up 750 yards and 62 points to a mediocre-at-best Kent State, we’re in a world of trouble the rest of the way.kdog27 wrote:Over 700 yards and 62 points to Kent. Re: Kent State
Annnnnd today is my cue to put BG football back in the closet for another year. What a disaster. Once again, thank you Chris Kingston and Mike Jinks for destroying a program that just 4 years ago was dominating the MAC.
BG football was my #1 team of rooting interest for the better part of 11 years. Honestly, I don't know if it ever will be the same after this stretch of misery. I've become the disaffected alumni who is finding it very hard to support his university...I swore in 2009 at graduation that I would never become that guy. But days like this are just too hard to stomach.
