That School Up North
Re: That School Up North
One of the happiest and most exciting sports days of my lifetime, and definitely in the top 5 for all sporting events I’ve attended as a student.
I can’t believe we went out and did the darn thing. We beat Toledo in my senior year. It doesn’t get better than that.

So glad I made it back for this game! I had a great time in Ohio. It is always a good feeling to return to my old beloved home town.

That was an awesome win but a stunning upset. I mean Toledo looked like the favorites to win the MAC. We may have derailed their entire season

I just made another Falcon Club donation in Loeffler's name. He earned it today.drumstix2388 wrote:EXTEND LOEFFLER!!! Just kidding, but WOW what’s win. All the credit to the defense for absolutely shutting TSUN down from the beginning, and really great playmaking by Loy and Denley. Nico Lautenen played the game of his life.

It was the classic UT choke job....they seem to have the one really bad loss every year. We were due and they weren’t ready.

In beating Toledo, Bowling Green registered the biggest upset anywhere in FBS this season, according to this analysis.

I would guess and I'm guessing here, BG spent the better part of the last 3 weeks preparing for Toledo. ND game was nothing more than a payday this year.

Re: That School Up North
It was one of the best days I've ever had at the Doyt...and I've been going there for games since 1984. There was something different in my mindset driving from Akron to BG. Coach has made it a BiG point to emphasize the rivalry since Day 1. We wanted it more, we played more physical and we punched them in the mouth and never looked back. I can't wait to get back Sat for CMU! This day will be remembered for a long time as the day BG Football started coming back. After the last 3 years, this was so exhilarating. I saw so much passion on the BG sidelines...Well done boys.

I agree with this. I also sense that perhaps they kept the playbook small at Notre Dame in order to maintain an element of surprise against Toledo.kdog27 wrote:I would guess and I'm guessing here, BG spent the better part of the last 3 weeks preparing for Toledo.

IIRC...they spent a few minutes f every practice going back to the summer on UT. Loeffler get's it....BEAT YOUR RIVAL
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: That School Up North
And well worth it IMO. Even if we don't win another game this season, it's a huge relief to not have that losing streak to Toledo hanging over the program anymore.Schadenfreude wrote:I agree with this. Re: That School Up North
Toledo came in cocky, arrogant and thinking they could just show up and win. BG came in pissed off with a point to prove. That difference in mindset was enormous.
The defense was stout and swarming, the special teams was superior and the biggest offensive threat we have (Loy running the ball) was finally unleashed.

This has been said elsewhere, but I'll say it here: Brian VanGorder coached a hell of a game. He has haters all over the internet, but give him credit for what that defense was able to do last Saturday. The Falcons were ferocious.
