Diggs now fouls, and Findlay steps to the line. Missed the first...and the second. Laster with the rebound.

"The next time I see a box out from the Falcons will be the first." - Todd Walker, noted truth-teller.

Turner gets a bucket, Frye gets a steal, then Turner cannot quite hit another corner 3.

Diggs with another foul, sending Findlay back to the line.

82-78 Falcons, 2:40 left.

Turner with another bucket. He has 6 of BG's 8 in OT.

BG ball with 2:10 left, up 84-78.

Frye misses a step-back, but Laster fights for an offensive board and wisely pulls it out to melt some time off the clock.

Findlay then turns it over.

1:20 left, BG up 84-78. Falcon ball.

Turner misses a falling layup, Findlay gets the rebound but then throws it away on the outlet pass.

BG ball, 45 seconds left. Falcons up 6.

Frye gets a layup, but Findlay responds with one of their own.

25.9 seconds left, BG is up 86-80 and Juice is heading to the line for 2.

Juice nails both.

Findlay misses a 3 at the other end, Turner grabs the rebound, and BG dribbles out the clock.

FINAL (OT): BG 88, Findlay 80

Stat rundown:

Justin Turner led all scorers with 24. Plowden and Diggs both added 13, and Frye added 12. Sierra had 7, Mattos and Laster had 6, Chandler Turner had 5, and Matiss had 2. Davin Zeigler played, but did not score.

39.5% from the field for the game. 29.2% from three, 17/24 from the free throw line. We were out-rebounded 53-45. We took care of the ball reasonably well, with just 6 turnovers. 7 blocks is a stat that jumps off the page.

Ultimately, I'm happy to get the W - but there's plenty to clean up, starting with giving full effort for 40 minutes.

Rebounding was bad. Defense was bad.

I think they know rebounding will be bad so they are trying to force Mattos at the C.
Diggs is a great rotational addition. Not sure what we got in the Freshman but it shouldn't matter.
Still bad on offense. Stand around and shoot threes.
We have never done this as far as I know but why don't we sign guys off these teams we play? We already had reportedly offered Bruns. He could play in a rotation for us. I love how we supplement freshman with juco guys. He seems like a decent active big

You're right about Mattos, they're desperate for boards. I might be wrong in thinking that we could survive with Sierra, Mattis at the 5 and rely on gang rebounding. There was a lot not to like about that exhibition.
-Findlay's bigs pushed us around, our post game was nonexistent.
-Perimiter defense was poor, and decent ball movent by Findlay led to late rotations on our part and open 3's.
-Offense wasn't overly impressive, Turner and Plowden were significantly better and more athletic than anyone they had, as they should be and our athleticism hurt them when we got out and ran. We also executed in the half court very well at times but it looks like we will be heavily reliant on the 3 ball. Diggs looked good, I think we're gonna like him.

Overall I'm not gonna get too disappointed, Findlay is a top-notch D2 program, who scared or beats D1s every year in exhibitions and real games, but we have a lot of work to do if we think we're gonna do what everyone thinks we're gonna do this year.

Read somewhere he tweaked an ankle. If a regular season game, likely would have played but may be also rested for the Tiffin match.

As I mentioned upthread, he was in a walking boot. I don't know how severe it is, and they seem to use those things far more frequently these days, but I can't see a guy playing ball the way he plays ball for at least a week or two after getting out of that thing.

The defense and rebounding were absolutely pathetic and MUST get corrected.

Mattos was absolutely lost on defense and his post touches were beyond cringe worthy. Dude is taking turn around fall aways from 5 feet against FINDLAY? THAT is your best post move? I'm sorry, but I don't see how he can be put on the floor for anything more than spot duty, unless he improves dramatically. I get they're trying to put him out there so that we have SOME size, but he still gets destroyed and offers nothing of mismatch on the other end. We're just going to have to realize pure size will always be our limitation, so build some mismatches in quickness to make up for it. Mattos gives us the sloth of size without the advantages.

But really the perimeter defense was the bigger issue. Fields was so good last year on the outside, we clearly missed him. Tough to single anybody out specifically, but the rotations were late and the closeouts were beyond terrible (in reality probably should have been called for at least 3 fouls on Findlay shooting 3s).

Rebounding we just looked lost. No boxouts, constantly trying to out jump and reach over lesser athletes, very little in the way of hustle for contested rebounds. You do not need pure size to rebound in the MAC. But no matter what level you play on you need the whole team committed to rebounding.

Hey it was one game against Findlay. Sky isn't falling. BUt there was about 43 minutes worth of "coachable moments" to take from that one. Let's hope Huger can rekindle the magic he found last season.

Huger said Fields should be back on the floor this week, and it's likely he will play against Tiffin (unless they want to give him more rest before LSU). He apparently was healthy enough that he could have gone on Wednesday if it wasn't an exhibition. He also said Fields will be in the starting lineup since he's one of our best communicators and plays really well on the perimeter. He'll make a difference in the energy department, for sure.
