Richaun Holmes payday

Post by BillyLP »

Holmes signed a 2-year, $10 million contract with the Sacramento Kings yesterday. Nowhere near what a lot of the NBA guys are getting lately, but that's a whole lot of money to guys like me. Congrats to Richaun!

I haven’t paid muck attention to the NBA for years and never on their salaries. This contract is for adding depth, a backup up front, which is eye popping to me. Apparently Richaun has carved out his niche in the league. Congrats to him.

The mid level exception has created a lot of opportunity for bench guys to score contracts in that range even if the team signing them is over the cap.

I'm overjoyed for Richaun.

I believe the Richaun has yet to find a good NBA situation where he can thrive. In Philly and Phoenix, he was stuck behind marquee rookies. In Sacramento, he may have more room to break out.

Hopefully Richaun will have better luck staying off the injured list.

Holmes had his best game as a King last night with 24 points, 13 rebounds and a couple blocks in 30 minutes. He's been getting 15-20 minutes but I think their center is out for 4-6 weeks so hopefully he can make the best of it. They lost to Denver 101-94. .

Their starting center is fine but hasn't been extremely impactful. They have a couple injuries on the team, so Richaun has been getting more minutes than people thought he would. He's made the most of it and, quite honestly, put the coaching staff into a predicament where they may have to bench players they never planned to bench. Harry Giles and Marvin Bagley have been the injured players. Giles was supposed to be the #2 at center. Does that change? There are even some rumblings of moving Dedmon to the bench and starting Holmes to see if the starters can stop putting the team in a hole to start the game. The question they need to answer is whether they feel Holmes starting is more important than getting his energetic spark from the bench in the rotation.

Bagley was the guy I was thinking of. I hope Holmes can stay healthy enough to take advantage of the opportunity.

I watched the last game and his impact has stretched far beyond the stats. They are 2-1 since he became a starter after beginning 0-4, and his energy has very clearly carried over to the rest of the team. It was a joy to watch. He is proving to be one of the most underpaid players in the NBA so far.
