Re: Classless tsun...
Wow. That could have seriously injured the QB. One game ejection is not enough for that kind of blatant viciousness.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: Classless tsun...
If they can suspend that Toledo player for longer than the first half of the next game, they probably should. He could have killed that Northern Illinois player.
Re: Classless tsun...
Jason Candle is a class guy. I hope he suspends the player for at least one game.

The meltdown on their board is glorious. Hope they enjoy paying Candle that ridiculous salary to field a mediocre football team.

No doubt. VASTLY overpaid at $1.15 Mil a year...he really isn't that great of a HC. He's under contract thru 2023.jpfalcon09 wrote:The meltdown on their board is glorious. Hope they enjoy paying Candle that ridiculous salary to field a mediocre football team.
That was a very dirty hit and as others have mentioned, could have REALLY hurt the NIU player. U of Thugledo.

No coach in the MAC should make over $400,000. All these programs hemorrhage money and if your coach is any good he’s going to leave anyway.

It's not about the salary, it's about the buyout.TommyG wrote:No coach in the MAC should make over $400,000. All these programs hemorrhage money and if your coach is any good he’s going to leave anyway.

In 1930, Babe Ruth was the highest-paid baseball player in America, earning $80,000 from the New York Yankees. When a reporter pointed out Ruth was earning more than President Hoover, Ruth reportedly responded: "What the hell does Hoover have to do with it? Besides I had a better year than he did."
Re: Classless tsun...
My point is that the MAC should reign in football spending. They could be just as competitive or not competitive as they are currently are now if they put some basic restrictions in place. Limits on coaches salaries, no staying in hotels the night before game days, etc.
MAC teams are having players do cartwheels when running offensive plays, 1st place team in the conference lost by 71 points to Ohio State, and the biggest non-conference win was probably EMU winning at Illinois.
The conference could save significant sums of money by just using some common sense while still going to bowl games and getting the occasional upset.

Re: Classless tsun...
IMO the NCAA dropped the ball on two major issues: coach pay and conference realignment. When the first coach was signed to a million dollar annual salary, and when Nebraska first announced a move to the Big Ten, the NCAA failed to step in and exert some leadership. Such as, a rule that no coach can be paid more than some amount relative to the university president or average faculty salary, and all conference changes must be approved of by NCAA.
The result is the sport has become too large and out of control. In the 1960s, Ohio State declined a Rose Bowl bid due to the appearance the football program was bigger than the university's academic mission. Woody Hayes was livid but ultimately accepted the decision and understood that his players had to be students first. Nothing like that will ever happen again because the football programs largely run the universities these days.

Every football coach and every player should strive to make as much as anyone is willing to pay them.zete wrote:No football coach, or player, anywhere should make over 400k.TommyG wrote:No coach in the MAC should make over $400,000. Just like every other job in the USA. That's the way we do things.
