Haven't heard anything about Levi Gazarek since he got his offer from Sparty. Something to keep an eye on as we are about a month out from the early signing period (December 18).

Yeah, as much as I'd really love to have Gazarek stick around (there's still a chance because his offer here is for baseball and football, whereas I think it's only football at MSU), I couldn't blame a kid for going with a perennial top 25 football program when the offer is there.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

I think the thing with him has to be Dantonio's status up there. It really does sound like there's going to be some turnover up there following this season.

MSU is sliding out of top 25 this year and D'Antonio is under fire. May not be the elite situation of the past.

Apparently...we just got a verbal from this kid from Bridgeport named Rainey. I just learned of this now...so details are sketchy
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

247 has him as a 3 star, with offers from Syracuse among others. Glad to see this class heavy on shoring up the o-line. I know the St. Ed’s kid will be good first hand, from Ed’s Dad who knows him and knows what he is looking at.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

As of noon on Monday, 12/2, our class looks like this:

TE - Levi Gazarek, Griffin Little, Bryce Bowyer
WR - Javonte Kinsey
QB - Riley Keller, Tucker Melton
RB - Terion Stewart, Jay Burns, Torrance Farmer Jr.
OT - Kaden Moore, Jeremiah Banks-Wall, Brian Kilbane Jr., Alex Wollschlaeger, Troy Rainer
OG - Matt Fortner

CB - Elijah Eberhardt, Marcus Sheppard
OLB - Fortune Woods, JB Brown
ILB - Aaron Washington
DE - Adrian Wilson
DT - Dontrez Brown

ATH - Trent Simms, JaJuan Boyd

You can see a focus on the pro style of offense Loeffler wants to run. Big offensive linemen, running back and tight end depth, quarterbacks he can work with.

Got to appreciate an offensive lineman named Wall. Seems a little light on D considering our struggles there this year.

I assume the reason for the imbalance is because signed 10 defensive players in last year's class.

Most didn't play immediately, but they will likely start to contribute next year. Names like Brock Horne, Anthony Johnson, Davin Wilson should all start to show up as contributors, and I know Jordan Anderson and JaJuan Hudson both got lots of playing time this year, so I expect them to make a jump in their development for next season.

Heard that, as of right now, we are able to hang on to Gazarek because of his opportunity to be a two-sport athlete here. That'd be a big one to keep in this year's class.

Eligibility question, just out of curiousity: Does anyone know if you would have to redshirt in both sports in order to have a fifth year of eligibility in one? Like if Gazarek doesn't play FB but does play baseball his freshman year, could he redshirt in FB or would his freshman eligibility be used up due to baseball?

That's a great, complicated question, stix. I also would love to see if anyone knows the answer to it.

I believe each sport is treated individually.
