Latest score? Heard we were up by 2 in 2nd half.

Re: Boardwalk Battle (12/20-12/21)
I see down 63-58, about 5 minutes left.
We need Turner’s floor spacing to return in a hurry. Offensive struggles are what’s been hurting this team, and I’m certainly getting him back would take a lot of stress off the rest of the shooters on this squad. His driving ability means open looks for the rest - and that’s something we’re missing right now.
Tough weekend, but we’ll get back on track in the near future.

OUCH!! And we were hoping- and even assuming we’d win this thing. 0-2 rather than 2-0 is NOT fun!

I've been a BGSU fan too long to assume anything. In fact, I kind of expect things like this (sad as that might be). If Turner's injury is worse than we hoped/think, this season will end up being a bust. I hope that's not the case.Class of 61 wrote:OUCH!! Frye is sort of in the tank. We've got Mattos and stumblebum in the post, and our only consistent spark is Plowden, and he was 1-12 in the second half!
Oh well, home for Christmas break, and back to the Stroh Center. Looks like both the men and women need some home cooking.

The women have done well enough considering they're playing the Port Ruppert Mundys schedule...

These scores are unbelievable. I gotta wonder if the team was hit by the stomach flu or something.

I’m in the same boat as you. Sadly I don’t think this team is nearly as good as it was predicted to be. I admit, despite knowing the history of BG hoops and following it religiously for over two and a half decades, I was drinking the koolaid. I think the team found a little fool’s gold being able to pull out the win vs Cincinnati without Turner in the second half. BG was stomped worse than the score indicated by Nevada and then benefitted by playing sims beatable teams at home before this tournament. These two loses were eye opening and essentially proof that we’re not a very good “team.” To finished as the only winless team in this weak little tournament field after entering it as the favorite to win it just proves that. Sure we miss Turner. And the talk of next man up is hogwash because we don’t have anyone near the caliber of him to fill his spot. If he is indeed out for the year we’re going to get rolled in the MAC. The team picked dead last in the MAC has an identical overall record as BG does right now and all of its loses were to high major programs, not anything like the crappy teams BG just got swept by. BG clearly misses its best player. Frye is cold as ice, we’re getting next to nothing from our post players and the combination of all of our other guards combined can’t compensate for the loss of Turner. I was buying pretty much most of what BG had to offer through 10 games, but now I’m selling. With Turner we can make things interesting, without him we don’t stand a chance.Falconwriter wrote:I've been a BGSU fan too long to assume anything. MAC is all that matters. We’ll be fine.

The coach isn't tough. So the team isn't tough. It's good in some ways because he is easy to root for and he recruits players you love to cheer for. But how often do you see a player grind and become something really good after not being good immediately under Huger? This is the opportunity for players to get angry and try to take control, but it just seems like players just morph into their role and don't want anything more. There are atleast 6 players on this team that I think could be all MAC (not all at once) if they just worked harder and played tougher.

The same reservations many of us had about Huger in the past have not gone away -- and you just articulated the core of it, I think. It's why, even though this team has talent and is picked to win the MAC, I'll remain skeptical until I watch an NCAA selection show and actually see BGSU on the board. I know that sounds negative but where BG hoops are concerned (men), history tells you all you need to know.Globetrotter wrote:The coach isn't tough. So the team isn't tough. I really, really want this team to actually live up to the hype and win the MAC and end this embarrassing streak.
