Wow, this is pretty shocking to me. Mount Union had a pretty unsuccessful season by their insane standards (losing in the second round of the playoffs), but with his success, I thought if he left it would be for an HC job.

Really good hire and a guy I would have been excited for as our HC when the job was open in 2018. Considering Matt Campbell and maybe some other coaches came from Mt Union too that is something of a pipeline. Perhaps being groomed for HC whenever Candle leaves? Leipold has worked out well at Buffalo so D3 to MAC can work.

This hire will give us grief for years to come and we will wish he was roaming our sideline.

IIRC....one of the emails from our search committee that the Blade got a hold of discussed Kehres and his candidacy for the HC gig. The concern surrounding him was his complete lack of D1 experience. Smart move on his part to understand that he may have to move down the food chain a step or two to eventually get where he wants.

His dad is taking a buyout and retiring as the AD at Mount. From what he (Vince) said to cleveland.com, it appears that he's interested a D1 head coaching job and this might be the better path.

Nobody really Kehres. He's joining a sinking ship after letting Mount Union slip behind other D-3 schools.
