BG vs Toledo

Post by elmrfudd »

The Falcons fought hard, but lost to the Rockets 79-72 in another overtime thriller. That makes the fifth consecutive MAC loss this season, four of which were seven points or less. It’s also the third overtime loss this season. It’s not as though the Falcons were not in a position to win these close games, as they had a fourth-quarter lead in most of those close games, but simply could not “seal the deal”. Kadie Hempfling played a great overall game, and Madisen Parker continued to shoot well.
The reason for the loss today was no different than all the rest of our losses. Poor passing, lack of defense in the paint and beyond the arc, fouling on layups and giving up “and ones”, and giving up far too many offensive boards to the opposition. It also seems that when we have offensive dry spells, that the opposing teams have offensive flurries, and we cannot seem to get a stop. It didn’t help that our leading scorer, Caterrion Thompson, couldn’t buy a basket the entire game and came up empty in the scoring column. Most of our turnovers usually come from lazy, ill-advised passes trying to force it to a teammate that’s not even open. Many of those turnovers happen under heavy pressure, and we lose our composure and make bad decisions. This all comes from not being fundamentally grounded and having a lack of floor leadership. As I mentioned before, Hempfling is the only player on the floor who can take charge at this point. We need two or three “go-to girls” who actually wants the ball during crunch time, and has the ability to deliver and make plays. Until our coaching staff can fully develop this team’s skill sets, we may well continue to be our own worst enemy on the basketball floor. Just my honest opinion. GO FALCONS!

Great atmosphere with 4400 people going nuts in OT. BG is much improved over last year and should be a force next year. Surprised to see that Thompson was your leading scorer. Total non-factor. Fun game, like a rivalry should be.
