@ Alaska (2/14-2/15)

Post by mbenecke »

Following the much-needed sweep of Anchorage, our Falcons (15-13-2) will head on the road to take on the Alaska Nanooks (14-13-3). Both games will begin at 11:07pm EST and will be available to stream on FloHockey. You can also listen to Ryan Vallon on the radio call, or follow @BGFalconHockey on Twitter for updates throughout the game.

WCHA Standings:
#1 Minnesota State 62 (24)
#2 Bemidji State 51 (22)
#3 Northern Michigan 44 (22)
#4 Alaska 40 (24)
#5 Michigan Tech 35 (24)
#6 Bowling Green 34 (22)
#7 Lake Superior State 27 (22)
#8 Anchorage 20 (24)
#9 Ferris State 17 (22)
#10 Huntsville 12 (22)

Goaltender Stats:

BGSU
Jr. Eric Dop... GAA - 2.48, SV% - .900, 14–11-1
Fr. Zack Rose... GAA - 2.49, SV% - .894, 1-2-1

Alaska
Sr. Anton Martinsson… GAA - 2.58, SV% - .918, 7-8-1
So. Gustavs Grigals... GAA - 2.26, SV % - .908, 7-5-2

This is truly a fight for home ice. If we can manage a split here, we will likely own home ice by winning out. So, let’s get it. Go Falcons!

Our goaltender stats are brutal....anything under a .910 save % in this day is just not very good....we have two guys that are both almost under .900.

I know some of it has been poor defensive coverage, but the goaltending has been a big drop off this season from the last few years...lots of soft goals this year and it shows in our record. When is the last time Alaska had TWO goalies with better save % than either of ours?? CCHA days I'd bet...

Currently -23 in Fairbanks....yikes!! Not supposed to be much warmer by the weekend.....and they wonder why we want to stop making these trips...LOL

But it's a dry cold.

Fairbanks is the only place I’ve ever actually witnessed frozen fog.

Alaska is currently 6 points ahead, with one less loss. BG currently controls it's destiny for home ice. Anything less than a sweep and they will need help to get it.

I didn't even know that frozen fog was a thing, and will now make it a mission to avoid it. 8 years in Chicago was enough bitter cold for me.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

We also have 2 games in hand on Alaska. After this weekend, they only have 2 left, while we have 4 left.

I was doing the math (in my head, so there could be a mistake), but BG still has a path to the 3-seed with winning out. I know how happy that would make TommyG.

If BG wins out and NMU goes 2-3-1 (winning 2, losing 3 in regulation/1-OT, losing the shootout/2-OT tie and only getting 1 point) against Bemidji, @ LSSU, and in their home/home with Tech, BG will finish 1 point ahead of them for the 3-seed. 52 vs. 51.

This would feel a lot more plausible if we had held onto that lead when NMU was here on a Saturday night early in January, but it's still mathematically possible. Just need to take care of business and pray for some help along the way.

Pfft. Give up a PPG to one of the worst PPs in the country. Take a major penalty. Kruse with two penalties. Rauhauser apparently pulls the puck under himself (penalty). Score only 2 goals. ](*,)

It officially ended in a 2-2 tie, but Alaska got the extra point.

That’s really not very good. We need a win tonight.

First Round playoffs at home are on life support. Lose tonight and that plug will be pulled. Only thing will be if we're at Northern or at Alaska in round 1.
Need a W tonight.

We still control our own destiny for the 4, right? They can get to 51 with winning out and we can only get to 50, but if we win out, that means we win tonight, meaning they can only get to 48.

Tech can only get to 47.

So we’re technically still in the driver’s seat, right? As long as we win out, we’re the 4.

Hard to see it happening at this point, but we have to believe.

Blew a 3 goal lead to let Alaska keep a pity point in the shootout. I hope the team is enjoying Fairbanks in winter, odds are good they're going back.
