If the cop smelled weed, that probably means that this friend was either smoking it in the car with Germain driving or they were somewhere together where weed was being smoked.
If that was the case then he did do something wrong. Therefore, Germain would be guilty by association in my book...he should not be hanging around with such friends when he is a scholarship athlete which is a representative of the university.
