In defense of Loeffler, he beat Toledo in Year 1 and he has been recruiting his tail off to rebuild this thing. He took the job with knowing it was a 3+ year rebuild, and he's said/done everything right so far. I don't think we should be acting like that was a bad hire at this point.guest44 wrote:Solid candidate? What has Loeffler proven? He isn't Clawson regardless of how badly they want the comparison. He had never been a head coach. The program he left fired the entire staff the next season, and he would have been gone too. If BG has such a small budget like Moose loves to use as his go to excuse for everything, then why are you handing out raises like that? Buyout for Huger? Huger's first three seasons were hot garbage. Not a single school has inquired about him even with the success, and it was a Justin Turner transfer away from being a bad contract. Wow, the BGSU standards are low. Say what you want about the baseball program, at least the won titles occasionally.
The bottom line here is that baseball made (essentially) zero money for the department, and it was hard to have a competitive program in the midwest in February and March. All they did was travel and cost the department money. I root for the baseball team, and had friends that played on it - but they were among the least valuable programs to the university, and that's what it came to here. They were at the bottom of the totem pole, and SOME cuts had to be made, so that's what happened. I'm hopeful the program can return at some point in the near future, but I'm not at all surprised that it was the decision that was made - I think it was the only choice that really made sense.
